Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch - Page 174

Unless they have plans for an HE-6 successor as well.

The good thing about the 560 is that many people will be able to enjoy fantastic SQ without having to invest in a very specific amplifier.

Fang himself regards the 560 very highly. Rumor has it, it is his favorite headphone yet...

Maybe fang isn't out to steal people's money and rather offer people that share the same interests he does great headphones for the right price.

Hey Zoom. Great to see you here. Haha. :beerchug:

What the Hifiman Rep (Peter?) said was that they're going for similar quality. With the HE-400i they're going for a siimlar/equal quality of sound to the HE-500 and the with the HE-560 they're going for a similar/equal quality in sound to the HE-6.

It will be nice if they're able to achieve this. I'm also very curious about the new tuning. I'm just hope Fang hasn't tuned them too bright or too dark, or even worse bright in one spot and scooped out in others.

Hey, sup buddy. Hope you're doing well. Thanks for clearing that up.

After the release of these new headphones, are the HE-500 and HE-400 going to be discontinued? I really hope Hifiman continues with their existing lineup, especially with those price.

If I can't find a sound I like between the two new Hifimans or Fostex, I'm just going to continue dropping studio monitors in every room.:D

Yes. The rep also said the HE-500 and HE-400 will be discontinued. They said they might do one last run (which should be happening about now or has already happened?) and then it's over. They're officially discontinued.

Risky if you ask me, but hey I'm sure Fang is that confident in the two new headphones. Haha. The man's got balls.

So the HE-500 prices are probably going to go up after they stop selling, like with Denon's. They're going for so cheap right now. I feel like pulling the trigger on HE-500s based on the deals I'm seeing, but the two things stopping me from doing so are the amplifier requirements and the comfort/weight.

Still can't believe he's actually discontinuing them for good. The HE-500 were probably the best selling out of the bunch. It's the equivalent of shutting down the LCD-2s (my favourite of all time).

Yeah, it is a bit of an interesting move to discontinue the older cans so soon, with HE500 pretty much right as HE560 is released. IMO HE500 gets pretty incredible in performance with just a couple of strategic mods, and clean powerful amping; it'll take a lot to beat my uber-modded HE500 :p.

I can imagine though that certain fronts which mods can't really remedy with HE400/500, namely truly large and spherical soundstaging, upper mids in line with lower mids / treble, and treble extension in the upper extremes, may be solved with the new line though. Ears will tell.

I really hope there won't be any need for modding with the new line up. I'm particularly interested in getting a more 3D sound. Are you getting both of the new Hifimans for review?

"strategic mods" ... dude! yer killin' me :D

Your strategic mods (and my one fine discovery) have my HE-500s singin', which is too bad for Fang in the short run, my wallet in the long run.  Cuz I'm so curious about the weight and sound of the HE-560s.  I'm hoping your ears will tell a happy story, but either way, I'm itchin' to read your write up, just as I'm sure you're itchin' to write it.

I suppose that you're making a joke.

Nope....it raises the upper mids/lower treble and it's nearly fatiguing to me depending on the song lol. I just realized that the velours are way nicer on my ears/less harsh, though maybe not as good SQ wise.

Sorry but your comments make no sense to me. I'll chalk it up to everyone hears things differently.
