Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch - Page 166

I know exactly what I'm gonna do. I'll grab the HE-560 as soon as I can. Chances are that I'll be a happy camper. If not, I'll get a brand new HE-500 at the discounted price, and return or resell the HE-560.

So I have been lurking in this thread for a while, decided its about time I make a Head-Fi account.

Looking to purchase my next set of cans soon, seriously considering HE-500, HE-400i & HE-560, but the 560 may be slightly out of my price bracket.

I've been refreshing this page every morning and night trying to get any info of them releasing samples for reviews

Welcome!

There's one thing we will all agree on. We are all sorry for your wallet!

And oh yeah, that's a pretty good strategy

HAHA, as if! Don't even try to resist ;)

If you are leaning towards HE-500 or HE-400i I'd wait for some comparisons. Could be worth the waiting time.

Welcome to head-fi, btw :)

Few pages back, I read that HE-400i will sound similar/closer to HE-500. OK. How will HE-560 sound ? Like HE-6 ?

Won't know for sure until we get more solid testimonials (most likely after the SoCal meet). IIRC, early review samples are supposed to be sent out by mid-March. Currently, however, there are opinions sprinkled across the web for both sides.

See here for Anax's initial impressions: On Reddit

And on the flipside, we have these guys claiming it has "a sound that—to [their] ears—seems to take a really significant step ahead of the HE-6 in terms of across the board performance."

Kool. Are they coming out with a HE-6 successor ? So the HE-400i will sound like HE-500. Does that mean, it will be better than he-500 or closer to it ?

"Better" is what we're all hoping for, of course. Again, without actual reviews, it's just speculation.

I think the 400i will be close to the 500, much like 560 will be close to the 6.

Remember that they do pointed out that they mean sound quality-wise, so the sonic character will probably be somewhat different. We'll see how much when the first review samples arrive to Jerg & Co.

As far as the HE-6 successor, nothing announced yet. And although I believe our doctor is cooking something up, it won't be most likely released sooner than the electrostat, rather later. Neither of those ain't coming before Q3-4 2014.

I expect it to have higher distortion due to less control due to only a single sided magnet. So objectively speaking, it's probably not gonna be technically better. Subjectively speaking, the tonal balance may be nicer, and may be more euphonic...

Just an assumption.

I now have my money all saved up, it is just hanging out and waiting in paypal  :D

Going to start working on a new amp fund, now!

What is the official release date on the 560? Seen different dates on the thread.

It's a planar, technically distortion shouldn't be a problem with this type of transducer however even the best panel speakers show weird results with distortion when professionally measured however no audible difference. Distortion on a dynamic driver usually causes coloration.

Slower maybe
