Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch - Page 77

the weight of the new headphones is lighter which is great, but how about the efficiency?

very low efficiency is the only thing that kept me from buy a HE6 and the most intriguing thing about the LCD-X,

I'd love to get rid of these desktop dac/amps and go portable eventually.

In my experience with loudspeakers with high efficency have more 'jump factor'

I know the new phones are suppose to be light but if they have efficiency , this could be the ticket..

Efficiency is quoted in the first post of the thread...

They have the same or slightly higher efficiency than the HE-400 [as 400i] and HE-500 [as 560]

I'd say portable amps are still not a good choice...

I still wonder about how they get the efficiency so high with just single-ended magnets. It has to do with the diaphragm membrane...maybe it's much lighter than prior planar magnetic drivers from them? Possibly the tracings on them are more sophisticated and reactive to the signal current? Can't be from the magnets, neodymium magnets are already the strongest.

^^ jerg, I have been pondering the same questions and wonderful what amps will pair best with the new offerings from hifiman. Will the Asgard2 be enough? Will it take the lyr or something along those lines?

If the Asgard 2 is enough, that would be a huge plus in my book as I can probably get rid of the beastly Emotiva on my desk. Haha. Although I might miss having 50W of power on tap available at any moment.

With those sensitivity numbers, anything over 1W@35Ohm is probably sufficient power-wise. As for specific amp matching, it comes down to what tonalities the 400i and 560's will each have, which we have no clue yet.

I know StanD is driving his HE-500s with an Asgard 2.  Pretty sure he's happy with it.

If that's accurate then the A2 would be enough but the Vali would fall short, delivering only 650 mw @ 1ohm.

400i and 560 are very different in sensitivity, so Vali could have plenty of headroom for the former, even if it might lack some for the latter.

I feel a HE560-specific thread should be made. The two are inadvertently bundled together in discussion in this thread and that just isn't right.

^^ If you build it, they will come.

I hope that whoever starts the HE-560 thread will be able to maintain it by indexing the reviews/impressions/important info that will populate the thread over time.  A well maintained thread index tends to keep the 'noise' & repetitive questions (which HeadFi is famously annoying for) to a minimum & enables interested parties to 'cut through the fat' and find impressions & consensus quickly.  I did this when I sent my Paradox on tour.

^^ +1 We need a veteran to step up. (jerg, cough cough)
