Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch - Page 68

Come on...we need some impressions of these hp's from NY!!

Anyway...Peter and Fang graciously invited me to dinner with them last night (they're both stand up guys to boot, it was one of the most fun dinners I've ever had) and I got to try the HE400i for a few minutes. Since I only got to try them for maybe 5 minutes total (I would have used them longer but honestly, I wanted to listen in to the stories that were being shared between Peter, Fang, and Fred Crane because they were very interesting), I don't want to say anything about how they sound, but what I do want to say is that these things are light. Almost hilariously light considering I still remember how hefty I thought the HE500 was. I also quite like the headband now that I've seen it in person and wouldn't mind if the final headband was similar.

So, yeah, that's really all I have to contribute because of my limited time with them, but I'm definitely excited. Also, take it easy on the questions to Peter, he's giving us all he actually is able to give, trust me.

Hmmm, dips....

Anyway, where were we?

I am just trying to lighten up the mood ^…^

And why don't you want to post impressions on how they sound?

We all know they are light, we need to know how they sound. ;)

I only got to use them for a few minutes, which isn't enough to process anything concrete. (Plus since there's so much buzz around these right now I feel like anything I say will be taken way out of proportion and cause more trouble than it's worth) Not to mention, like Peter said earlier, the sound of the final product was being tweaked, so anything I say about them now could easily be wrong when they actually come out. The only reason I posted was to express just how light I thought they were, which should translate to actually being able to use them for hours at a time.

Please, no more with the "yeah I saw it, and spend a little time with it, I like the headband, it's amazing how light and comfortable it is" torture. Have mercy. Say something about the sound. I can't care less if Fang undressed and ran naked while you were there. OK, maybe a little. But let's hear about the sound.

edit. OK, sorry if I offended anyone. More patience is what I need.

Now we will make assumptions about how underwhelming these are...

Were there other head-fiers at the meet/dinner, that you know of?

I'd love to say something about the sound, but since what I heard wasn't a final version of the tuning, I'd rather not mislead anyone in any direction. I'm pretty sure what I heard may not even be what they actually sound like. I definitely don't want to feed the hype train, so that's why I'm so skittish about saying anything about the sound. Trust me, after actually handling them, I'm more anxious about the final product is going to sound like, because I heard a lot of potential. And again, I only heard it for like 5 minutes. If it was any other headphone and someone talked about the sound after using them for only 5 minutes, they'd be lambasted. I feel this especially applies here, since these don't sound like anything else I've ever heard (in a good way, of course).

And the only people there were Peter, Fang, and Fred Crane. (And please don't PM Peter or Fang for more information, he's been ridiculously busy for the past few months and has told us all everything he knows)

Maybe you shouldn't have mentioned that you listened to them...  maybe you should have lied and said that fang only let you hold them.. now everyone is angry with you!!

Ishcabible  LMAO!  i imagine one of those AWESOME conversations you guys were having at dinner involved how funny it will be to get on this thread in particular and mention how you heard them and only mention how light they were.  You guys are probably all skyping one another drinking some wine waiting for hell to break loose.

Oh definitely not (actually in retrospect I probably should have asked for permission before posting anything at all...). I mean, I could talk about what they sounded like, but I'd probably get even more flack when the final version doesn't sound like what I heard, so I only wanted to share what I was sure about.
