Best <$250 Gaming/Music headphones?

I'm looking for headphones, my first pair of high-ish end headphones but I just want to dive in instead of ease on in. Here's what I'm looking for:

< $200 price tag (brand new) - If there are a pair of cans that are around the $250 mark that fit my needs then please mention them.

Closed back

Decent sound stage - Will be used for lots of gaming and music. I listen mainly hard rock and death metal to chill/dark/dubstep and house. I'm not a basshead but something that does justice to songs that are made to tickle your ears would be great. I also want great highs and mid's yadayada.

Low impedance level - I want to use it with my iPod as well

Preferably something not offensive to the eyes of the public being I want to wear it around

I want to be able to wear these for hours with no discomfort.

I've done lots of research and I just can't make up my mind. I've looked at the Audio Technica ATH-M50's and they sound incredible except for the sound stage being non existent from what I've heard. I've heard bad thing about the sound quality of the Sennheiser HD 558's and they're open backed so that's a no-go. The beyerdynamic 770's seem amazing as well but they are just too bulky. Shure headphones are out of the question.

Any help I can get will be GREATLY appreciated.

While I don't own a pair, the AKG K550 is something you might consider.  They are said to have a similar sound signature to the open AKGs but with the increased bass that comes with having a closed headphone.

They are around $220 on Amazon right now.

The akg k550 are BIG headphones. If he finds the dt770 big, then these will be huge.

Thanks for telling me that. I like the look of the AKG 550's though. So torn between all these headphones :/

Sony MDR-1R looks good and comfortable and it's on Innerfidelity Wall of Fame.

I'm certainly no expert, but I've fallen in love with my Sony Pulse headset. Depending on the version that you get, you may or may not be able to use it not only on your computer and consoles, but on your phone as well. I apologize if this isn't what you're looking for, but I just love it.
