Once under warranty when the cable socket went loose.

Then the right case cracked. Sent it to Westone and the repair fee was like $15.

After about 8 months, the left case split in half leaving the parts dangling. Again fixed for about $20.

The W50 hasn't run-in. I have great experience with Westone and trust their design and service.

Plus my UM3X is long out of warranty and the repair cost is getting high. I love buying earphones when they first come out.

The quality of the old westone line feels better than the new ones, from the sound of it, you may want to hold out for a few weeks for the w60 if you can stretch you budget, they are much more balanced from initial reviews.

Color me disappointed. Thought for sure the W60 would be out this week... since Westone has now officially said they would ship mid-May. Leaves 'em tomorrow and two days next week for their statement to be true (mid-May) I guess. Didn't think they would've said it if they didn't know for sure it would happen. They're cuttin' it pretty close... or they have an expanded definition of "mid-May". I know it won't make any difference once they're out... but right now, impatient and disappointed with Westone for not getting their **** together to get these out... knowing they're sittin' in a box in Colorado somewhere due legal BS.

Earphone Solutions has moved the shipping date to May 30th so I guess mid May is a dream now.

Roxanne...you don't have to put out the red light.... Thumb prints and bubbles in finish are over...i keed. Seriously, what is with high end IEM's getting delayed like this.

Yes, but the "official" word from Westone was published well after ES put up the May 30th shipping date. FWIW, ES doesn't really know... they just put up something that was supposed to be far later than Westone was to have released the W60 this time. So there's still a faint possibility of an earlier release.

And also, FWIW... there's no way I would go for the Roxanne universal. It really appears to be oversized, besides the fact that I have no idea as to whether I would like the "JH sound", as I've never heard one. And it's the first universal IEM put out by a company that's never made universals before. So I put nowhere near the trust paying that much money for such an unknown. I've heard many Westones and Shures, and at this point, I trust enough in what they've previously put out, that I have some idea that they know what they're doing when it comes to making high performance universal IEMs, and that they'll have a certain standard of performance and sound. JH? Not so much. Besides it being MHO that those Roxanne universals are butt ugly. :D And 12 drivers per side?... I can't imagine.

I have the westone letter from ES. The letter is on Westone letterhead with free earplugs for trouble. Still, I wonder if the due date will be met. I guess we will find out in a couple weeks.

Hi all,

I am new to this thread. I received my W50's this afternoon from Amazon.

Out of the box I find the same as the others that have listened to them, the sound is a touch on the "dark" side with the high end being lower than I would prefer.

I am currently burning them in hoping that will open them up a bit.

As this is my first set of Westone's I am wondering if burn-in periods are required as much as with some other IEMs. If so, how long?

Thanks.

Edit: I found some interesting threads & articles about BA IEM burn-in being a "myth". Letting them finish running over night won't hurt at least. I'll definitely get a lot of listening time in this weekend to decide whether I like them or need to return them.

Please help, W50 or UM 50 Pro?

I am using iBasso DX50, most of my music are WAV format.

I am currently using um3x and want to upgrade it to W50 or UM 50 Pro.

1. Do I need to get an AMP for W50 or UM50pro?
2. What are the difference between them?

Thanks for helping^^!

Unless you are a musician needing a stage monitor, get the W50.  It is for listening pleasure with a much more open sound.

I imagine that you would have more luck experimenting with the different tips that are in the box than burn in.
