Buying first surround system

Thread Starter

Hey guys I'l new to the forum and would a appreciate any help and advice :)

So here's my question what would you advice me to buy as a surround system including a receiver.
I have already pre wired the room with standard red/black audio cables.

I have been searching the internet quite a bit and am quite puzzled about all the options I have and can't really make up my mind.

I have looked into bose but everyone says they're waaay over priced, but I do like the small receiver size (which is very handy as I have only 95 mm op space beneath my tv).

Yesterday I stumbled upon an offer for a bose lifestyle 38 system for  €500 in new condition, yes it is quite old and doesn't have hdmi but I was thinking I could just connect it to my tv via an optical cable and thus have HD video on the video and no need to switch inputs on the receiver.

At the moment I have an Bose Companion 5 for my computer which I quite like, sound quality is quite good and frequencies start at 31Hz to 28.0000 I have measured which isn't to bad I think. Because I am quite pleased with this system I'm quite curious as how to it should sound better. I'm very into music, I DJ and make music so I've already seen a lot of audio system but rarely and that beat my quite "cheap" bose system.

So that's why I came here for you guys to give me the best audio advice I can het!

I am planning the to use the system for gaming, music and movie watching :)

So what do you guys think I would be very happy with any feedback! :D

You'll find it hard to get help here, it is a headphone forum after all.

Try AVforums or something.

Either way, they'll say avoid bose.

Don't get a system without HDMI - I think you will regret it.
