Yes these come supplied to hold a phone et al in place! Rubber feet on the bottom of the Hugo have been specifically positioned to stop a device from hitting the chassis.

1.) anything about gain switches - is there one? If so, what sort of gain levels are we talking about?

There is no gain switch on the Hugo

2.) and does the volume control control the RCA outputs? I've read conflicting answers to this.

There are two answers! If you hold the crossfade button down and turn the unit on, it outputs line level through the RCA's. turn it on normally and the volume slider controls the output level on the RCA. (If set to line level the volume can still be turned down in case you have headphones connected and need to turn it down quickly.)

3.) how much does it weight? I'm sure we can find numbers in grams and so on - but really how it feels in your hand? Can it be realistically portable, for example.

~330grams yes it is a TRULY portable unit. Not too heavy nor too big.

4.) there's mention somewhere about drivers for macs. Is a driver needed for mac osx and dsd?

Not as far as I know, MAC is driverless.

5.) can you post a picture of the charger? May be the specs on the back of it? (It'd be totally awesome if I can use some of my adaptors)

You, Sir, are a good, kind man. Someday, people will write songs about you.

With no gain switch, I'm now especially curious as to whether these are quiet with IEMs and sensitive headphones.

I'm curious about the whole gain/volume thing also. Are the different outputs (1/8" and 1/4") of different gains?

Have you tried the psychoacoustics settings on the Hugo, to get the soundstage in front of you instead of the "in the head" experience?

With both the IE800 and the HD800? If so.. how will you describe it?

I guess also it would be wise to try out the Hugo first and be familiar with that sound before I try to find the perfect match.. but CIEM's is the way to go I guess, for traveling. Yeah.. but first the Hugo.. late February my dealer told me.. around the 30. even though February only has 28 days this year.. so I guess it might be early Mars before I get my hands on it.. When will you guys get it?

I believe that they do use the Hanke-Henry calendar on Mars.

It had better be pretty amazing to make it worth remembering what the lights mean. I have a memory of a goldfish so will probably have to print out a little cue card or something.

The size of the Hugo is perfect if you ask me.

but.. I will be more than happy if someone explain me how, with a decent player software (that has a real UI and a real playlist support... not ARPro), the NOTE 3 can send "bits perfect" 24 96 at least to a HUGO.

I'd be interested in this too.  The Note 3 does play 24/96 WAV file through the stock Android app, but whether this is down-sampled I don't know.  I'm thinking getting the Hugo and pairing it with an X3, but up to 24/192 through USB from the Note 3 would be very nice indeed.
