The more I think about it having now owned both, they seem like 2 halves of a whole. The 650's have a really stunning bass performance and great mid's, but lack a little clarity while the 600's have no real bass, good mids and great clarity. I think that if you could combine them you would have the worlds best headphone. (Maybe that is what the 800's do? Never tried them, despite wanting too badly)

The HD800's bass is better than the HD650's, also the HD800's clarity is a lot better than the HD600's.

It's simple. Buy the HD 600. They will sound better on a wider range of music. If you feel like you need to go warmer, you have several options from there which include the HD 650. Bottom line, the HD 600 is not a bad place to start. EVERYONE knows it and knows exactly how it sounds. It's a good baseline to have since it can be referred to practically anywhere in this forum.

agree...buy the hd600..........first.

then the itch can be tamed by a hd650...

then slay the curiosity with a silverplatedcopper cable...

then decide what to sell

The results of the poll are ridiculously close even with almost 100 votes.

It's incredible there are 72 people who are wrong or can't decide. The HD 600 is clearly better. ;)

I say we close this poll on Sunday night and whoever's on top at that time is crowned the champion once and for all.

Clearly forum members should be required to purchase the 600s so all have a common reference point...or maybe the 650s would be better.

I mostly listen to classic and jazz and for that the HD600 sounds more true to the original (more neutral) to my ears.

The HD600 it's better on so many level than the dark HD650

Yup HD600 all the way for me too. I owned the HD650 for 6 years! And it made me think all other headphones where too bright ha

In regards to the bass comparison. For the me the HD600 bass is more linear and balanced with the rest of the FR. The 650 bass has a hump. Humps can be nice, but on a technical level the 600 bass is more transparent. I've never found it lacking either. It has a lovely rounded punch when amped well. In a perfect world it would extent deeper... But neither of these hp's excel in this department imo.

Hd650 is smoother, more detail, more refined, wider soundstage, you should have both, really.

No reason to close the pole, IMO. New people will come by and new perspectives will be brought. There's already a fair amount of people who have voted. It raises good discussion, if you ask me.
