I can run 4 different amps off my Cd player and EeePee can run 2

I can Run Toslink/Coax/2 sets of rcas at the same time

EeePee can run 2 sets of rcas

And I MAAAY have another set of hd650s to throw in the bunch.

My 650s are completely stock with a stock cable, and I have a 600 cable with a Neutrik XLR on it for the Mjolnir.

The Mjolnir has XLR outs we've used before and I think there's no volume adjustment to them.  Just rare-ish to have an XLR in amp there.

My Sony CD player (which is pretty nice sounding) has two RCA outputs.

Slick, it'll be awesome to volume match 4 pairs of 650's on different amps and see how they all sound.

Yeah but it's gotta be one source.  So it's gotta be a CDP into amps that also have RCA outs into other amps.  Other DACs and such change too much.  For me.

Here's a chart to look at, cause you should know about these things.

Fundamentals are orangey red, yellow are harmonics.

Why would you add another amp between the CD player with 4 RCA outs and the amps driving the headphones?

Does the CD player not have line level outputs? I've never heard such things I'm curious :)

Our CD players only have two RCA outs each.  I also have optical and coax out, but turned all that silly stuff off.  I can turn it back on, but don't care to.  So we have a CDP that will connect to two amps.  So we need amps with pre outs so we can add more amps without adding more boxes, like DACs via optical or coax to other amps.

Though I think Jason has some RCA splitters, but me, not a fan.  But whatevs.

Some amps will have a direct split so the input signal can be daisy chained to another amp or preamp. Though honestly it's not a great idea unless you know the specs of the output and the specs on the inputs on both amps. Chaining them this way can affect the sound and the volume of the signal, depending on the specs of the output. Most home/audiophile gear isn't designed to be split. Pro gear is another story. Also, any player with dual outputs probably has both outputs individually buffered as to eliminate impedance issues -1070 caused by directly splitting a single output. Many preamps, like my Rotel RC-1070 have multiple buffered outputs. It's another item in the chain, but certainly better than daisy chaining a bunch of amps.

Ahh gotcha didn't realize the cdp only had 2 outputs, makes sense.

You could always get RCA splitters..... unless you believe in the power of cables...

So i will have a Hd580 instead i hope to have a new ear pads and grills and maybe a balanced cable by the time the meet rolls around.

Does the hd580 use the same connectors as an hd650? I have a spare set of cardas plugs for hd650. Heck, I have a spare hd650 cable as well.

Yes they are the same

The Geek Outs should begin shipping around the end of the month. So it's looking like I most likely won't have mine in time for this meet. I have a few of them ordered, so there's a small possibility I could get one of them in time but the odds don't look to be in my favor.

I may have a Chicago buddy in town the weekend of the meet. If he's around I'll bring him with me if for no other reason than to really show him what else is out there. Also he's good company.
