Shortening the cable of ATH-M50s

The cable on the M50s is 3 meters long, way to long to hear music from  phone.

Would you guys aprove to cut the wire 3 inches away from the headphone itself in order to install a 3.5mm female jack or would I lost a lot of sound quality?

I wouldn't cut it that short - not so much for the sound, but just because I wouldn't want two connectors (M/F) hanging off one side of my head. I would just shorten the plug end to the length you want. If you can put a female connector on, then you can also put on a male.

Too bad you didn't get the coiled-cable version instead of the straight. wink.gif

You can cut them to about 4 inches and then buy a short cable extension. The Fidelio L1 does this.

Even the coiled version is a bit too long for portable use.

I would cut the cable to length, and maybe leave a few inches, then terminate it in a 3.5mm. Practice on some crappy headphones before you do the real thing though.
