Need advice on AK100 with low impedance IEMs

I've had an AK100 for about 9 months and am disappointed using it with my low impedance IEMs (Ety ER-4P and Shure 535). I really like the AK100 and have it maxed out with two 64 GB cards (lossless files ripped from my cds and some downloads from hdtracks). I listen to a wide variety of music from rock, folk, jazz, and classical. I'm mostly using it with DT-1350 headphones, which sound OK but not great, and with my home yamaha receiver with the optical out. I'm considering either the RWAK100 mod or adding a portable amp.

Any recommendations on products or the best approach?

Thank you,
Mark

When you say "disappointed", what do you mean? What is it that causes you to be unhappy about the sound?

The shures, for example, seem compressed. I may not be describing this accurately but the highs are subdued and the low range doesn't seem to have the punch these IEMs had on my old iPod touch.
