Old Russian speakers - connecting to my computer

They're called "Amfiton 35ac-018." They are old Soviet speakers, supposedly high quality ones. They are huge. I would like to hook them up to my PC, but I don't know how. I have a converter wire (red/black to one connector), but it didn't work. It had contact, but it didn't really fit to plug them in into the two available slots. Yet they did have contact with the connectors. There was no sound.

For pictures, schemes, etc., you can just Google the title. For reference, this is how they look: http://media.okidoker.com/data02/c/1/2/2/22519/63825/156978_2.jpg?updated=1245174196

Are they active or passive speakers? Active means that they have an amplifier built in. If they don't, you probably have to connect an amplifier between your soundcard and the speakers, as most soundcards are only DACs.

Welcome to head-fi

Sorry about your wallet.

You can't plug them directly to your computer, you need a speaker amp or a receiver. Are you sure they work first of all?

Thank you for the links. The second link is really helpful, as it has pictures and I need to restore them.

They are working now, and I have plugged them into an amplifier, however the foam is deteriorated, so I've ordered a foaming kit. Currently waiting for it to arrive.
