Matrix M-Stage DAC to replace Fiio E17 for use with Matrix M-Stage Amp, or something else?

Hi All,

I'm looking for my next upgrade.

I currently use Sony Laptop (mostly Spotify) -> Fiio E17 (USB DAC) -> Matrix M-Stage Amp -> AKG K550/AKGK701/Senn HD600.

I'm pretty happy with the sound of the above setup, but of course I'm always looking for that extra quality level.

The obvious choice for a new DAC would be the compatible Matrix, but would it offer me anything that I don't already achieve with the Fiio E17?

I'll be selling the E17, and will have approximatley £200 to spend on a DAC, but I'm concerned that the Matrix DAC won't really be much of a step up.

I listen to mostly 'rock' (not metal), occasional classical and jazz, and I like a decent bass response, with clarity, separation and a decent soundstage.

Any thoughts / views woud be appreciated.

Thanks for reading this.

Spotify is going to be your weak link. Their sound quality isn't the best.
