recording onto md

I have a Sony MZ-R55 mini-disk player. I got this when they were still pretty new on the market. Somehow it seemed to have been misplaced and i was not even aware of its existence in my humble room. Now that it has been re-discovered, I would very much appreciate some input regarding how I should record onto the disks. Keep in mind that this and a link which came with it are my only pieces of md hardware (other than blank disks). The link changes usb cable into a plug that fits into the line in. Will I require more things to efficiently record onto these disks? Help will be greately appreciated...

Your USB to mini adapter is probably analog (most of the early ones were). I'd recommend getting an optical digital cable and recording digitally from a CD player, or somehow getting a digital signal our of your PC. Digital is the best way to go to record onto MD, although analog recordings can sound good too.

Well iv been looking into the different sources i have, and on my ps2 there is an digital (optical) out port, now i need to purchase a cable that will connect this to my player. What kind of cable should this be, and where do you recommend buy it?

Your portable MD player will have an 1/8" optical jack in, probably shared with the analog 1/8" stereo input, and your ps2 will have either a standard square toslink jack (probably), or maybe another mini-optical jack. IMHO there isn't a lot of difference between optical cables as long as they make and keep a good connection, and the cable itself is fairly sturdy. Radio Shack, Best Buy, or most other electronics stores will have the optical cable you need, you can get a standard toslink cable and a mini-adapter too. Should set you back about $10-20.
