serious question Phil... if you were thinking of either the AK240 or the Chord Hugo (with DAP, say AK120 or ZX1) which would you go for?

This is a fair price comparison AK240 V 'Hugo & DAP'

I think you're being a bit too optimistic, there - maybe £2499.99, or, if the dealer is having a sale, you might get lucky at £2499.95, but £2499.00 is just asking too much, don't you think?

I'll let you know when I have both side by side. :-)

I reckon you're right but don't forget, you'll get a free screen protector for that price as well! :veryevil:

I personally think it should cost 25000,- to separate the 1% from the plebs. Why stop halfway?

I think it is these features, the chip set and the large screen that is going to save me from making a rash purchase and stick with what I have got. I have already heard from one friend who heard it at vegas that the increase in macro dynamics and soundstage over the 120 is something I can achieve simply by plugging in my 120 to my TU-05.

I think if you like the features this player has got great, enjoy them. I just wish they had brought out a stripped down purist design with small screen, large battery and the two power eating Wolfson chips, now that I would not have been able to resist! As it is some major and expensive features would be just wasted on me with the 240.

All these player coming out and you seem to be of the belief that every player should be designed with the "purist" in mind, Or worse yet still of the mindset that everything else automatically detracts from the audio experience/reproduction. For shame, when according to post from weighty individuals among us this player is at least a step in demonizing and proving such mindsets absolute hogwash!

Personally I think this is a great step in the right direction as far as options for some of us more open to seeing where thing can go and hybrids alike (this, the ZX1 and Calxy M in recent among others)

That price however. Those chips and the extra work put in to the audio circuit must really be out of the way special :p

Exactly. That would also make it sound a lot better!

Never underestimate the power of hi-end cost placebo to hifi sound. :)

It's about choice. You can choose to believe one dap sounds better than the other. That's how brain works magically (burn-in's aka brain wash) when it comes to sound. LoL.

Placebo works both ways. Just as easy to convince yourself things don't exist. These feeble arguments for a product not yet heard.

I can't agree with you anymore.

Placebo works not only in sound, also in real life on big scale. Placebo is not a bad thing at all so long as you know you are not fooling yourself.

Surely if placebo's work then your not fooling yourself! The proof is in the action and if a placebo produces an action then how can you be fooling yourself. Not everything has to be explained to be proven to be right!

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Not at all if you allow your thinking to stray outside of the box! No one has proven absolutely that God exists and yet many millions believe in him or her in their different varieties, heck even the US government has that deity on their money!
