I think these forums are exactly the place to call on manufacturers when WE FEEL they are taking us for idiots. This is not being uncivil. And the language bit was highly unnecessary.

Of course not : UI-wise, no one tops Apple.

Calyx M has no opt-output.

It was not a slam. Simply an understanding that perhaps you didn't fully mean it as i described. Won't make that mistake again. Heck, it's my 1st language and get it wrong sometimes. LOL

Glass houses and all that.

Now that you mention it the AK240 does kinda look like sliced bread...

The right one is 3.5mm headphone out that is also a line-out and an optical-out. The line-out is accessible via setting panel.
The left one is 2.5mm balanced out plug. The pin assignment is R-/R+/L+/L- from the tip.
No optical input in AK240 as far as I know.

If this is all the I/O's, does this mean the only HO is 2.5mm Balanced? Where's the 3.5mm Stereo HO?

I absolutely love the classic but thoughtful design of the AK120 (since they improved the part around the volume knob compared to the AK100) but I dislike the looks of the AK240. I simply don't find this new design appealing at all, maybe it's fine in practical use but from the looks on the pictures only. Do you feel the same or are you all crazy about the design of the AK240?

Don't think an official MSRP was ever announced for the AK240 is that right? In which case they could still be thinking where to price this given the new competition. They could be reading this thread (I'm sure they are) to gauge where it should be placed. Given all the new AND strong competition coming out IMHO they should scrap the AK100 replace that slot with the AK120 with AK100 MK 2 price point (titan a little more) and put the AK240 into where the AK120 was. That to me would make more sense and tell other companies that they are here to compete and defend their turf....

The Sony ZX1 looks to be potentially nipping at the AK100's slot (similiar pricing). The Calyx M looks quite credible and could give AK120 a run (I'm betting it does given they built the Femto). While not the same thing the Chord Hugo shows what cutting edge tech can be had for $2k and is probably going to blow the AK240 out of the water with regard to SQ. I don't doubt that the competition in 2014 is going to be TOUGH and I suspect iRiver knows this. In the open market you can defend that if you have something nobody else can produce (ie. proprietary technologies) or have a natural monopoly on things. Don't think either is the case here. My $0.02.

Enough "feedback" has been given on the pricing of the AK240. Hopefully they are reading this thread.

Now the question is how does this thing sound? Very eager to read about people having 1st hand experience.

Interesting, so if he is right the main difference between it and the other two is WiFi.

It's not just WiFi file transfer but music streaming. I wonder if will be able to stream 24/192. That's often marginal wirelessly an any setup.

Only functional difference other than balanced out but the hardware and OS are completely different than the other models from SOC to DAC and amp.

So the line out is just maxing out the amp output similar to Calyx M?
Did you guys try to max out the phone out of ak100 and feed it to an amp? Really unlistenable

Read Japanese blog on the AK240 - looks like it's Android based.

So wifi streaming etc... makes sense.
