Hi guys,

I have a question for you about the optical digital output. A friend of mine who also owns a 240 is not able to get his unit to pass a 24/192 signal to an outboard DAC. I don't own a DAC, so I have no experience with using the optical output. I always assumed the optical output passes 192 files.

Does the optical output pass 24/176 and 24/192?

Now the fourth now has a jumpy volume... means if you turn by one or two clicks it can increase by 0.5/1 or jump down 10 levels. I'm tired now I guess my dealer also, obviously there is no error free ak240 out there.

Hmmm, your case is unique.  4 returns!

I have no problem with my 240 output 24/192 to my Meitner MA1 DAC at all and it sounds excellent (better than using Macbook Pro/Audrivana).

I'm using WireWorld optical cable but forgot what model it is.

You are making me very nervous about my ak240 lol. I haven tested out the 2.5 TRRS nor the micro sd card port yet. keeping my fingers crossed when I find the time to test.

Anyone with the knob problem, have you tried using a contact cleaner?

This still helps clean the mechanisms on keyboards and mice; when they start to double-click from a single pressing. Or used on things like car and motor parts.

I think AK used magnetic volume control? Just guess.

I spoke to a customer service rep about the knob problem. This was a few days before the last AK240 update. After investigating, he emailed an update on June 20th. Below is an excerpt.

"Problems you are seeing is well known and other users have been experincing random volume skips as well. We are continuing to look into the matter and should be available as a fix from our next firmware update, scheduled later on this month."

I really don't think the problem was addressed in the last update but hopefully in the next(?). At least iRiver acknowledges there is a problem.

Good, so it is essentially not a hardware problem.
