The Astell & Kern AK240 - Page 304

I am very disappointed with the AK240 and Fitear C435 pairing (silver cable).not only does it sound overly bright for Jazz piano and the drums sound very blunt and unresolving for more recent music. I guess Suyama-san was excited with the TG!334/335 pairing. Now a man is faced with the decisions of rolling some copper cables or sending the unit for mod or putting the ciem back in the drawer collecting dust... Its too early to sell the HM-901 as of now.... Will try a few more albums to conclude.

I just got an AK240 just last week and that is after comparing to the AK100 II and AK 120 II demo units at my local store. Don sweat it ya :)

CHG, I think the combo of the 435, AK240 and silver cable may have been too much transparency rolled into one. Perhaps try the 435 with a copper cable? That's one of the combos I use. smily_headphones1.gif

Honestly I'm really hate to do transfer to the 240 as it is so slow...the display shows the figures running and will have a hesitation for 0.2 seconds after a few seconds of continuous transfer.  Somehow I managed to leave the unit alone and let the transfer going without looking at it.

Does anyone use the AK240 with a portable amp? I am considering the Cypher Labs duet and using the balanced output from the AK240. Or should I just use the balanced output direct from the AK240?

I do have portable amp but found the 240 direct has more clarity and better SQ overall.

Just got my 2nd replacement ak240, the 2.5mm port work perfectly.

Thanks for sharing :)

I pretty like the Signature of the sound from the AK240, your experience with it has cemented my decision to just go ahead and order balanced cables.

I am deciding between FBI and Toxic Cables, which cable do you have experience with? On a personal note, I prefer Toxic cables as it is aesthetically more pleasing but would like to hear more opinions before going ahead.

Thanks in advance!

For myself, I like the BW, Virus and Golden Poison. Good synergy with the slightly more lean sig of the AK240. smily_headphones1.gif

Yes. I will take my existing hirose to trrs (hifiman) occ adapter to reterminate to 2.5mm.
If i have to buy an additional copper cable for my recently purchased AK240, i will hang myself with the existing silver cable LoL
