Ok, here's a serious suggestion: Koss Porta Pro's 35 Euro.  Reference the famous German audio & Harley guy whose legacy product starts with a 'T' and ends with an 'A'

Try the Grado iGi.  Around 89 and grado products are certainly available in Germany.  You should check out the reviews here first though.

Bummer.

First problem I have had with my AK240. Just done update and all seemed to go well but no longer recognises my music folders.

Music is there as memory only showing 2.5gb  left but does not show under folders in internal storage or indeed under Android file transfer.

Tried setting reset but no help.

Do not want to do factory data reset unless absolute necessary.

Any clues.

Just hold the power button down for like 20-30 seconds, it does a hard restart. You won't loose any data.

One question - are most of you using this DAP with an amplifier? I have been following the threads on DAPs for some time as looking for something to use with my UM Miracle. I currently have a Ray Samuels SR-71B and Clas Solo and it would be great to go to a one box solution. However, if these DAPs require a decent amplifier I will hold off until there is a better one box solution.

Thanks

James

You definitely do not need an extra amplifier with the AK240, especially if your headphones or IEMs have been re-cabled for the balanced output. If the AK240 was $2500 but needed an extra amp, that would be crazy IMO.

While we're on the subject of the line out though, I had a flash of inspiration. Whenever I buy full-size headphone cables now I ask for them to be terminated in a 4-pin mini-XLR (or now an AK240 TRRS). Then I get tails, along with the cable, to adapt the mini-XLR or TRRS to other connections, such as TRS, 4-pin XLR or dual 3-pin XLR. See Moon Audio (Silver Dragon), ALO Audio (Green Line) and Norne Audio (AK240 adaptors) for examples, but any cable maker can do them.

I wanted to connect the AK240 to an amp and realised that the dual-3-pin XLR tail had the correct plugs to use as an input as well, so I whipped up an adaptor to connect that tail to the AK240 tail and the result was an AK240 balanced output cable:

Very clever, and saves you a bunch of money. I use the Moon Audio mini 4 pin on my HD -800, I can switch between all my amps and AK-240.

Can somebody here please tell me what I'm missing before I throw my 240 in the trash and get a DX90.

Doesn't do anything but show option to switch off or not.

It is as if the update has formatted the internal storage so it thinks it now has only 2.5g in total.

Only thing i did was update to 1.15.

Not best pleased.

Please do try again, just continue to hold down after you see the shut down message. I just did it on mine, and released after 45-60 seconds, and it did it's own shutdown.

Nice Cable. may i ask where did u get it from? balanced line out for AK240 should have both the 2.5mm TRRS and 3.5 TRS if i m not wrong.

I think they used an EXTERNAL audio input source for the comparison.  I don't think this is how most people will be using either the DX90 or the AK240.

You only need the 3.5 TRS plug IF you need a Ground connection, like for an RF shield.  IEM or headphones normally don't 'need' to have a grounded shield, so most balanced cables work perfect without the extra plug connection. Also, only the 'S' part of the 3.5 TRS is connected to ground/shield.
