So, now the next question becomes : is RWAK240 as good as the HUGO or is the HUGO still the Klng and necessary to get the most out of the AK240 ( instead of Vinnie's Mod ) ?

the hugo dac is king! the ak240 dac is outstanding, but not at the same level as the hugo.

i use my rwak240+ portably wiith my jh13s,and transportably with the hugo and my audeze lcd-x(a match made in heaven)

Interesting impressions, decur. I'm tempted. I'm somewhat anal, though, about fit and finish. How's the quality of the mod? Is there any evidence besides the obvious that a mod has been done?

The volume control still functions if I recall correctly, but something is defeated when the line out option is done (maybe I'm thinking about the 120 mod). Please let me know about this if you would ...

everything works the same, vinnie's work is top shelf!

I doubt the difference maybe minimize. As the DAC section maybe better on the Hugo, but amp section I think the rwak240 is better. wink.gif

How rigid is your optical link?  Do you have enough flex that releases the pressure on those plugs?

I have been using the exact sysconcept optical cable. Seems rigid enough for me.

It seems like an overkill to use the ak240 for its optical out. I mean, wouldn't the AK100 provde the same signal considering the DAC is bypassed?

That's the conventional wisdom in this thread. Personally even strictly as a transport via Hugo, I find AK240 sounds better than AK120.

No pressure on the plugs at all(fits perfect)
Customized by sysconcept....

I think the amp section on the rwak240 is more natural/organic sounding whereas the hugo amp section is analytical sounding.
What i like most about the hugo, is that it is by far,the most detailed and transparent dac i have ever heard, and that includes many full size uber expensive ones out there.
I had a mind blowing experience via my rwak240>hugo>audeze lcd-x,listening to hdtracks fleetwood mac rumours hi rez.
Listening to mick fleetwood's drumming, was like i was on stage with mick, with my ears 6 inches away from his drum set.
Analyizing all the scraping, and beating of his drum work.
Pretty amazing!

Thanks for the opinions! Have you tried to compare reak240's balance out vs Hugo's phone out? Which one is better?

Thanks~

Hi, bought my 'new' ak240 a couple of weeks ago and immediately noticed the writing in the back was faded/rubbed off. I assumed it was just the plastic cover however when I took the plastic cover off the writing was still faded/rubbed off. This has made me question whether or not it is new or maybe refurbished. The retailer says it could be a bad batch and is happy to refund me but I paid a keen price and doubt I'll be able to buy one for that price again. Would be keen to hear if anyone else has had the same experience...
