Yes, and I am listening to it daily with optical connection to Hugo.

It is so since the latest firmware update some time ago.

It resamples dsd as pcm 176khz for output via optical.

I had a little trouble getting it to initially work, but I'm finding that the AK240 is feeding my Hugo with 176khz output via optical.

well I'm actually with kantana on this one - the key draw of the AK240 (or any AK) for me is I can have decent pocketable SQ without the bulk. Putting it in a camera bag makes it as big and as unaccessible as my hm901! Totally beating the purpose of getting the ak240 in the first place for me. Own it 4 months and I haven't even put it in the stock case!

Imho the difference, if any, would be minimal. In fact, prior to getting the sysconcept optical cable, I preferred dx90(stock dx90 coax cable) or note3 (stock hugo micro usb cable) over ak240 (stock hugo optical cable) for source. YMMV

How about a shirt pocket? I do that. If I parked my big butt on the 240, it be history.

LOL tried that before, not good, the thing weighs down the shirt and makes you look like you have a saggy chest.  If you bend over the thing falls out!

some impressions of my red wine audio rwak240+ mod

when i first heard and tried the new ak240,i was very impressed! i really liked how my jh audio jh13 iems sounded.

it was not only the sound quality, but it has the best and fastest user interface of all the daps i have tried.

fast forward,1 month after living with the ak240,and my ears adjusted to its sound, i decided to try vinnie from red wine audio's rwak240+ mod(to push the limits) and see how much of an improvemet,it would be over the already fantastic stock player.

this mod greatly enhances the sound quality of this player! what i notice the most,is that "all of my recordings" sounded like

highly compressed mp3 files on the original stock player versus wav or lossless files on the rwak240+

the stock player sound was thin, and the modded player added a richness and warmth to it.

i also like the fact that this mod "does not" alter its transparency or sound signiture. it sounds EXACTLY like the stock unit, just fuller sounding. the other thing i notice,is the bass is a little tighter(faster) which is a plus.

speaking of plus, i had vinnie install his (true analog line out option, with the additional line out jack, shown in the upper right corner.)

in using this option, going to some of my portable headphone amps i own, i notice the sound is cleaner and clearer!

this is the best way i can describe the difference between stock and rwak240+

I read this article about  QOBUZ  being soon available on the Astell & Kern DAPs.

--> IS IT ALREADY OPERATIONAL ?

--> Does it just allow to buy/download  files or does it also allow for Streaming on-line music from QOBUZ (with a QOBUZ high-res subscription)

Thanks for this feed-back. Very interesting.

So, now the next question becomes : is RWAK240 as good as the HUGO or is the HUGO still the Klng and necessary to get the most out of the AK240 ( instead of Vinnie's Mod ) ?

Interesting impressions, decur. I'm tempted. I'm somewhat anal, though, about fit and finish. How's the quality of the mod? Is there any evidence besides the obvious that a mod has been done?

The volume control still functions if I recall correctly, but something is defeated when the line out option is done (maybe I'm thinking about the 120 mod). Please let me know about this if you would ...

From RWAK240 site:

"This (jack) is hard-wired from the output stage of the d/a converters, and completely bypasses the stock headphone output stages and gives you the cleanest possible line-out signal to feed an external portable amplifier. You will still need to set the volume wheel to MAX in order to get full output voltage (no digital attenuation) from the d/a converters."
