AS, did you garner any comparison to the AK240? Did the rep mention if any SQ differences of the 120 II to the 240 since spec wise they appear the same?

exactly... spec-wise they appear the same.

Well - You know how rep guys talk, especially on trade fairs....

Anyway - I personally am not too much in favour of the new form factor AND the step up in pricing AND the unacceptable customers service from iriver AND the fact that roughly 1 year after I paid 700 Euro for my player iriver is launching a completely new product line, practically devalueing the first players AND ....

But I must admit - it seems that there are just many people out there who simply "want to have the best" and who are willing to pay some crazy money for a DAP. (When I bought my AK100 I ad thought I was being crazy) I guess it is as ok for iriver to sell their products at premium prices as it is legitimate for apple to do the same in computers. It's still my decision if I want to buy the stuff or not.

On the sound signature I cannot honestly claim to have heard clear differences while listening with different Headphones to the players  (each unit had a different HP).  Sorry for that - You'll have to wait a little bit and listen and compare yourself when the new players will be available.

Personally, I wouldn't support a brand who is stagnant. Whatever I have bought won't degrade just because a newer or better player is now available.

I wish iRiver and every progressing brand will continue to come out with newer and better products. This is what makes this hobby so interesting.

You are right in saying that you alone (like everyone) can and should decide what you want to buy or not to buy.

I just found this article -  it gives a little more information on the DACs and the storage

I agree, they should never make a newer version of a product.

What I can say is that AK100 II and AK120 II both sounded very good to me form what I could hear. The sales rep guys claim that the difference is clearly audible. The difference between both in tems of soundproducing setup still is that the 100 has only 1 DAC and the 120 has 2, so the 120 keeps the signals separated all the way.  Both have now only 1 SDXC card slot but more storage onboard. Both are using the same Android based UI that AK developed for the 240. Both are also considerably larger than the "old" models. They both now have approx. the size of a IPhone 5 - you need to decide for yourself if you like this.

It seemed to me that the amp section has become stronger as they had several grown up Over ears ( HD800, HE 500, Momentum; Can#t remember all the phones) attached which they could drive to quite acceptable levels. (although the loudness was set almost to max)

Anyway - they declared that there will be a major update for both the "old" AK100 and AK120. That's the good thing - On the other hand I fear that this might be the last update also as they changed the UI for all their models. I must say that this would be such bad business conduct that I hope they will not / do not follow this path.

I know the environment isn't ideal for you to make a conclusive comparison, but did you hear any difference between AK100II with the older AK100/120 and also with the AK120II?

A question to AK240 owners: How would you compare folder browsing function of AK240 to that of rockboxed Ipod classic?

Does it work well without problems? can you browse files just like windows explorer folders?

You have several browsing methods available on the AK240 including the ability to browse by folder.

Agreed - thanks for the tip, I now have a 20 . I had thought the 20 would be too tight and that the zip might scratch the top of the a k240 as it closed, but there is comfortable space. cheers.
