Yeah the other one did not look like the AK240 screen :)

While it looks slick and has nice features such as search and the EQ as well as volume functions I still say that the screen is a huge waste of real estate, the AK120 shows full screen album art if you tap it while in use so it might do something like that but for the price they should have thrown in video capability at HD quality, there's no excusing not having done so really given the technology thats available now for such things seen in devices much thinner and the RRP of the device. Can understand its for music but imagine HD quality video with the sound it can offer.... if it could utilize HD out it could double as a video device that you can have as more direct source to your home entertainment system if you wanted.... if it could be hooked up to a larger hard drive unit via its docking station.

Am I the only one who thinks that it's ugly? Call it make a statement, a work of art, etc.. To me this is not the place where you got to build a dap that looks like a sculpture. It does not matter what it has or has not not, I can't hardly get passed the shape. It looks so odd to hold and really weird looking. I guess if you want to be noticed, that's the dap for you. What happens to simplicity or just some soft curves, I can go for that.

+2400 $? .lol.

I can dig the shape of the thing, although it makes it look larger than it is from an angle... its seems like everything is looking like an Apple device of recent, if they had brought out another oblong shaped wafer thin phone/tablet wannabe it wouldn't stand out.

You really have to hold it to see how it feels. I really think it looks weird but in your hand it feels right.

And if you are not planning for multi-brick stacks, then there is not much point having a balanced out on the AK240 to connect to another balanced dac/amp.

Well the whole point was if I wanted balanced out I'd have to turn the Calyx into a stack which would hurt it's portability. I'd rather avoid it and don't need the extra power of an amp to drive my K10s.

Bmichels and goldlion, it'd be impossible for the cover art to take up the full screen because the screen is taller than it is wide. Given that what else could they have done to make you pleased? HD video seems silly on a top end music player, huge waste of battery and more a gimick I'd expect from the likes of Apple.

That'd be neat but it wouldn't sway me one way or the other.

I am dissapointed about there being no true line out. They had to leave something for Vinnie to mod. What happens if you plug a 3.5 unbalanced into a 3.5 balanced? If Vinnie wanted to mod something he could turn the 3.5 into a true line out and expand the 2.5 into a 3.5 balanced if there is room.

I guess, very doubtful I'll ever see one up close.

I don't like the Apple brick, I was so disappointed with the iPhone 4 and 5 shapes, they had a rumoured model on some site that just looks sexy, I was hopping it would be it, little I know they went for boredom city but on the other hand they did not go for some chiseled look.

Here is where I thing the dap would feel home.

Horses for courses... to me it seems silly having an AMOLED screen to show snippets of artwork and large blocks of grey for tabs when the AK120 did the same with less.

Personally don't think you can have 'gimmicks' on a $2400 device.... Cowon does well on this.

100% agree.  No innovation in the UI here.  Just waste of Screen real estate !

Okay, so besides album art, what should the AK be able to do?

Well, then there are playlists:

1 - Manage of dynamic playlists,  decide "play next", "play last"... like Calyx.

2 - Being able to change order of the songs inside a playlist by just draging/sliding a song within the list (of the playlist).  Again... like Calyx.

And ...take advantage of the gorgeous & Bigger  OLED screen. Today It is wasted to just show tabs and menus.... like the AK100/120 !

And on the hardware side... again (sorry): having a real line-out that does not go through the Headphone amp, and therefor that cannot be colored by the headphone amp. Some sort of SS relay needed.
