viscoszero, can you confirm if the ak240 still has the track shortening problem with songs that are tagged? eg songs form amazon and itunes?

Yes, only direct from Analog Squared Paper.  You must remember that this guy does this as a hobby and built few units per month, hand assembled only by him.

So, you can really communicate with him before the purchase & ask for special requests (I asked for 2 inputs with 2 differents sensibility: 0dB & -6dB, others asked for 1/4 jack instead of 1/8 jacks, other for special colours...). And later he helped me to add an XLR plug to my already delivered amp.

...Very pleasing purchasing experience :-)

That's nice to know.

Hey,

Been catching up on this thread - glad to see the AK240's shipping.  Looking forward to eventually getting a hold of one when they are available here in the US later this month.

I was thinking....  it would be a great feature for these players is an external battery in an enclosure that is the same footprint, but thinner.  And

take out the stock battery to use for space inside to fit better d/a, analog output, and headphone stage.  Maybe have two external batteries (one can be left on the charger topped-off while the other one is in use).  And a very short and clean cable to connect the two.  It would be a good thing and if they could easily lock together, then it would be a breeze.

Looking forward to listening to an AK240 soon...

Vinnie

Do you already have designs on the 240 mod? Or are you thinking out loud on your computer screen? Either way, I think I'm interested. I'm anxiously waiting for a few reviews.

Thanks

Nothing yet - just thinking out loud. ;)

First step is to get hold of an AK240 and get familiar with its stock sound.

Have you ever thought of doing mods for other dap's?

Sony ZX1 ($750) or FiiO X5 ($350) - Chord Hugo ($1950) = $2300 or $2600. From early impressions you get better sound, and lose out on portability and capacity. And no balanced out.

Calyx M ($1000) + 256GB SD Card ($450) + RSA SR71B ($650) = $2100. Sound comparison is an unknown, UI's both look good, capacity is the same but the Calyx M has the 1 uSD card advantage. With the SR71B you get a stronger amp and better balanced interconnect. Size of the stack is the downside.

RWAK-120B Titan ($2200) + RSA SR71B ($650) = $2850.

AK240 = $2500.

I'm waiting for my new Roxanne IEM. Question: is an amp really necessary with IEM for any of these set ups? Or better yet would it make that big a difference in SQ? (I know 120B mod has to have an amp).

It looks like they hammered out the final design in the middle of the night over several gallons of Korean wine.

I haven't any songs from amazon or itunes on it, sorry... most of mine is ripped directly from CD using XLD or bought from HDTracks

i will w1ait for these because i know at least one store will stock these rather than other player, and well i came from the ak100 , and these seems to be the straight line upgrade in terms of everything besides going for the zx1 but that have a sound sig i dont really like

I like what I read (yet again) But by principle I think not

AK240 is already not cheap, I can imagine modding that baby for sure pushes it to the 4 K region unless the moding community are willing to charge less.
