The Astell & Kern AK240 - Page 71

Looking at the specs it has a balanced output with a 2.5mm socket. It says "only four pole supported". I am not a techie person so do not know what that means but isn't the 2.5mm socket that which one finds on cell phones as a headphone out?

Just saw, the link does not go to the page I was reading. just click on the 240 and you will see specifications, click on that and it gives more info.

Phone used 3.5mm. Usually 3 pole, 4 pole if it had mic.

AK240 has (2) phone outputs:

(1) Typical 3.5mm TRS - 3 pole

(1) Balanced 2.5mm TRRS  - 4 pole

I like the wifi streaming. Good for portable use even within your home.

Hi, not being critical, but I would like to know in what situation

you would use the wireless streaming?

I can't think when I would use it, unless it sounds MUCH better than my

Dell XPS I7 PC/Audiolab M-DAC  (total price 50% of the AK240)

I could see it being useful to take to other peoples houses

The (big?) downside is usually (ZX-1) what WiFi does to battery run time...:(

Unless you can have the 240 plugged in whilst using it to stream at home. As to the point, there are many of us out there who like to keep things as simple as possible and who do not have home systems, in these cases this one box connected to my portable tube amp and streaming from my Mac book pro is a wonderful solution both at home and when I am staying in hotels for work.

So anyone who wants to use the BAL output need an adaptor.
They did not use the mini xlr
As everyone else has. Ex the alo

Just saw that RSA to 2.5-mm balanced adapter here

I still couldn't get over the picture with AK240 driving HD800 since they didn't even add an amp there.

Thx for sharing..

Based on the website :

* Feedback :
- Actual design is much better than Photo.

- AK240 sound is outrageous! Sound improvement is much bigger this time (AK100 < AK120 << AK240)

- There is noticeable improvement between unbalance and balance output.

- No more stuffy UI and library scan.

- Like it. I will buy.
