I tried that. At first I thought it solved the problem, the song continued after the first 10 seconds till it hit a random 1:17. The player actually freezes and none of the buttons on screen or actual buttons works. Only if I pop the microsd card out, the player regains function and I'm able to navigate again.
 
Am I supposed to be able to drag and drop into the microsd while it is inside the DX90 and connected through USB? Because it simply won't show up on the drive (sort of gets stuck, the safe to eject won't even pop up on windows when I click on it in the tool bar) with the microsd card in and i'm trying to figure out if my card is defective/fake or if there is something that must be done to the device first?
 
I upgraded to the new FW and so far i'm listening to some music on the internal memory, sounds great and no problems with any of the controls/functions.

Yes both the microsd card and the internal memory should show up as drives as long as the unit is powered up when you connect it to the pc. On my pc it only works connected directly to the pc but not when connected to my powered usb3 dock.

Fake SD cards will not be helped by re-formatting. The only cure for a fake SD card is the trash can, period...

What you should always do is check every memory card you buy/use with a Memory Card Tester App like this one, the best:

Ok, thanks. I won't do anything else until I first check to see that the card isn't fake. $22 for a 64gb sandisk from ebay does sound too good to be true huh? :) even though the guy got good feedback.

Look into NewEgg next time, it saves lots of trouble.  There are some deals website like Slickdeals where users post low prices on memory if you are looking for the lowest price.  Also, pay atten to what kind of class the card is.  I believe class 10 is fast.  You want fast.

Couple of questions for owners.
 
What's your experience been in regards to how long it takes to scan a 64GB/128GB card after you've filled 50-75% of the card and then add new music/albums? If you use dual cards, will it have to scan both even though you've only added to one card?
 
Seeking through flac tracks, somewhat painful?
 
Anyone have a sound comparison to the old Sony NWZ-X1061 mp3 players? I prefer clean-to-warm, vinylesque.

I stopped scanning cards, cause it's too unreliable. I just browse folders.

DX90 is not warm.  It's on the colder side.

On scanning, it depends upon what type of files. The more files the longer and it doesn't matter the size of each file, it is just the number. I have a 128gb card filled with DSD. For that card it takes around 1 minute to scan, that is when it was first scanned. For adding songs, I will to pay more attention to give feedback on that. 
 
Sound, it depends upon what you are listening with. On the Fostex TH900, the sound is slightly warm, and for me, very enjoyable. The Hifiman 560 is pretty neutral, and changes more with the recording. The ESW10 JPN, slightly warm. So it depends but to me, the music and the monitors tend to have the biggest influence. I hear good detail with any of the mentioned headphones, with nothing etched but what I would term as a clean sound. I can not stand heavy or overly warm as I feel this masks the music. I like transparent, layered and something that portrays the acoustics of the environment.

Ok, so I tried to check my sandisk microsd with H2TESTW. It says the card has ~63 gb of free space and its write speed is 5.74 mb while reading is around 16.8 mb. I'm using it with an SD adapter through a SD slot on my laptop so maybe this could be hindering the speeds?
 
In any case, I can write music to the card and when I insert it into the DX90 the music shows up and plays but gets stuck at 10 seconds and usually freezes the player. Would a fake/defective card even show me this info on the player? Tried the +volume+power format that doesn't help either.

that micro usb cable that came with the dx90 sucks and my computer couldnt read either with it. I used my micro usb cable from my phone and both the player and card reads perfectly.
dont forget to format the card too if you already didn't. sometimes that's the problem for some

Maybe try formatting it in FAT32 (easy with a Mac, more complicated on Windows)? Or try to reformat the mSDcard in Exfat on Windows?

are you using a separate/external amp for the th900 or is the dx90 enough to make them sing. I'm thinking of getting a th900 soon if one comes up for sale in Australia for the right price :) cheers
