Not sure, but as far as look and feel, it's going to look very similarly than the DX50. I thought that is what they said they were going to use including the UI. The way they operate is when ready, they'll show the purchasing details on their website like they have done for the DX50.

OK, thanks. So are you going to get both the DX90 and the X5?

I was not going to keep the X5 in my list of players to buy but after what I heard, I am really split. Mind you I have not heard the DX90 yet and my expectations are sky high. My wallet is definitively telling me not but if I was just going according to my ears, they tell me buy both.

I think I have to let this brew a little and then take a decision, that is where I wish I was filthy rich.

I know you have one, how is it compared the DX50. Just a short answer.

Well I don't want to over emphasize one over the other (and I am still evaluating it) but what I can tell you is, I still haven't amped the X5, that should tell you quite a bit about how this player performs. ;)

I find they each have their strong and weak points but at the end of the day, there are two well designed players. I don't think that anyone owning one or the other would regret their decision.

Good to know, thanks. I have to wait another month or so tell I get my turn on the X5.

I will be curious to see how the dual core cpu handles cards and if there is any change to the hi rez reading and sound. Also, I would guess scan time would be even more improved on, though that also will depend now on the card used.

I reckon the quality of the card reader will have more impact than the CPU. But then I again if they can do it right and want to be fancy with it, they can maximize the dual-core cpu by allowing a scan to happen at the same time be able to navigate (browse, play files) the DAP.

Sorry if this has already been answered but will you be able to use the DX90 as a USB DAC?

When the software is finished for this function, yes.

Short answer is yes … And if you do "search this thread" on top for "USB DAC" you will find a lot more info on this:wink_face:

You know, reading about the AK240, and then seeing the "not really a portable" and realizing this isn't AK's intent and knowing that some truly are after sound, the DX90 at the sub 500 dollar price, is all the more ridiculous. My gut tells me that with two Sabre dacs and a new amp section AND the same size as the DX50, that for sound, the DX90 will sound better. They used cheap dacs in the AK240. And while implementation is important, you can only do so much with a sows ear. Also there is no true DSD in daps. They all convert DSD to PCM. So what do you get in the 240? I am not talking down the 240. What I wonder is value and value to the customer and that can only be determined by the customer. No one has to buy anything except the necessities of life.

Well, a bit more of a wait. I am also surprised at the size of the DX90, that it is the same size and yet will pack so much into the case.

Personally I wouldn't mind it having a bigger footprint if it had a better battery life.

I want to sub'. I will be getting the X5 for sure, but also want the DX90. Maybe I'll have both for a while and then sell the one I don't want or keep them both if they're equally awesome.

So jamato, do you think the DX90 will be superior to the DX100?
