I'm dead set on getting DX90, just not in a hurry. I would rather have them take the time than rush it out buggy as hell like DX50 was when it was released.

That will hopefully include my 32ohm Denon D5000s.

There is not necessarily any reason why the DX90 might not be able to compete with the DX100, in terms of SQ, with IEMs/CIEMs

The DX100 can perform at a high level of SQ with cans, too, and that is where it is most likely to pull away from the DX90.

As far as the price difference, well... it's a valid point but not a bullet-proof one... as ever, technology moves on... it's now 2 years or more since the DX100 hit the market. The mobile variant of the ES9018 has since become available and it will be less demanding, overall, than the desktop variant, so that will somewhat lighten the load of implementing it within the confines of a DAP.   OK, so the DX100 ES9018 was singular, whereas the DX90 is using a dual-config of ES9018K2Ms, but it's still half the overall number of cores, if I'm not mistaken.

So, less power requirement from the DAC stage  +    less beefy Headphone-Out power delivery, means that some corners can (legitimately) be cut in comparison to what was engineered in the DX100.

Personally, I will not be all that surprised if the DX90 matches (maybe even slightly exceeds, just possibly) the SQ of the DX100, in circumstances where IEMs/CIEMs are being driven, rather than power-hungry cans.

..And if it doesn't... well, I'm nonetheless very confident that it'll be damn close!

.

That will hopefully include my 32ohm Denon D5000s.

Well going by their product nomenclature I surely is hopeful the dx90 is very close to the dx100!

I'd be surprised if anyone can tell a difference in a level-matched blind test, personally.

I'm in in mainly for the easy line out, ability to play 24/192 files and a large-capacity non-moving-hard-drive storage.
