Nope ;)

If iBasso's DX90 is release out to have a 'war' with FiiO's X5 , I don't see why they won't release a more economically affordable dap :D

I do not believe this is their reasoning for the DX90. They are releasing it as a piece that makes good use of the new Sabre dacs. They already have the UI and case and the timing makes good use of the release of the Sabre. Just common sense.

Yes, and it's intended (broadly-speaking) more for IEM/CIEM use than the DX100, on the amplification side of things.

Besides, DX100 isn't going to last forever, while all the newer DAPs keep hitting the market.

So, the DX90 may end up sounding 90% as good as the DX100, and then the DX100 may be replaced (let's nickname it the DX200, just for the sake of discussion, here) and that DX200 may sound 110% as good as the DX100, and with added features like dual card slots...or whatever.

The point is that I agree with jamato8 - the DX90 is appropriate to the current time, and the DX100, excellent though it is, is looking a little aged in comparison to the newcomer DAPs, so the DX90 is not in competition with the DX100.

The DX90 is a shrewd move by iBasso, to capitalise upon their existing investment in the DX50 platform.  - They can use the DX50 platform to take a bite out of the AK120's cake, by making the DX90 with twin DACs, without having to do much more development on top of what they've already done for the DX50.

As long as iBasso are not having to pay much more investment to achieve the DX90, and as long as they make a profit on whatever DAPs they are selling, I don't suppose they really care which of their DAP line-up sells the most. A profit is a profit is a profit!

It's all good :beerchug:

I hope neither Fiio, Ibasso, Hifiman or Iriver wins because that would mean that the war was over.

As long as they keep fighting to produce the best possible DAP for any conceivable need and budget, we, the consumers, win.

One of the old principles of economics: Healthy competition favors the consumers, brings the price down and increase the feature set manufacturers bring to the table. Although one can argue that the price is not coming down as much as one would like, however thanks to some conscientious vendors, it gets somewhat more affordable.

If one day Apple and Samsung decided to venture into true audiophile DAP with Siri / Eye command or store audio files at the cloud and exchange flac file wirelessly, don't think we will still discuss AK is luxury brand to iriver or the country of origin for hifiman/fiio/ibasso vs. Korean made. But one thing for sure if Apple and Samsung announced DAP at the same price level, we will see a price slash on these palyers.

Just saw the AK240. At least Ibasso won't have to worry about the DX200 being the ugliest brick out there!

I think that's the difference between not bothering about how something looks (DX-100) and trying too hard (AK240)... Give me the former...

I don't think they are worried about how many they sell, more of a statement piece both in what I guess they think will be sound and art in the hand. I will be curious to read what people think when they see it in person. It is sad that they chose a cheap dac chip for the conversion. And that if they are going to charge so much for the dap, that they would use this this dac chip when there are better sounding ones out there. Well it will be interesting.

I think the DX90 is going to be a bargain. Two Sabre dacs and what I bet will be a very good amp section. iBasso has very good knowledge on both the digital and amp side of things.

apple would still refuse to have external storage though...

All folks who discuss AK240, would you please discuss it on its dedicated thread, this one is DX90, please pay attention to the forum rules. I don't care but people come here to find info on DX90 not AK240 also mods might warn you too.

I don't want to sound offensive, it is just, we can all play together under simple rules right?

I've moved a bunch of posts to the AK240 thread. Left Soren's post (and reply) as it was some kinda DX / AK comparison.

I would like to throw my vote in the bucket for the balanced option.

I have not yet experienced the RSA Intruder with balanced in.  At one point I was considering the Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo - dB.  But I went the route of the DX50 instead.

So, yea.  I would like to have balanced line out available.
