Most players are going with micro sd cards. I find advantages with both. I have a 128gb SD card. It is faster but better than that, I like the CF card, which is faster for loading and I think a better card but no one uses that. The Hugo uses everything.

USB music? Means as a DAC?

USB modes;

1. Storage

2. DAC

1 - The player acts as a drive allowing you to perform file/directory functions (add/delete/move) on your computer, it will appear as a mounted drive.

2 - The player acts as a sound card through the audio setup on your computer, it allows you to play music on your computer through the player DAC.

If you prefer it uses your computer as a source instead of the player internal memory/external microSD cards.

The above is either or, meaning you can't have both at the same time.

At the very least iBasso should do something to combat all the fanfare of the fiio X5.

Something.....anything.....iBasso you listening?

X5 is out in China and coming to the states in the matter of weeks so please provide review units to some reputable reviewers.  (not me, I don't know what I'm doing) but some of the other qualified people.  I just want the best sounding DAP for under $550 and would love to give Dx90 a chance...

Don't worry. It is coming and won't disappoint. iBasso has a good track record with the DX100 and DX50 for sound. And the UI of the DX50 for me is working great.

I'm available, and have some good DAP's to compare it to

I would really like to share your enthusiasm but iBasso has still some pending issues they haven't solved that I classify a no go for a close to reference dap. Granted their UI works although overly sensitive. But at close to half a grand I will expect the player after that much experience with the DX50 to be close to bug free, unfortunately as it stands I can only use the DX50 as a stack the amp is the Achilles heal.

The single biggest issue for iBasso, in competing with the X5, is the single card slot of the DX90.

I really don't mind single uSD card. 128GB uSD is already there in Japan, the rest will follow soon enough. As for me I'm waiting for the 128GB to come so I can buy a couple of 64GB for cheap after the price drop.

In my opinion it makes no difference what so ever if there is one or two slots, no matter I will still have to swap cards. To avoid that it would need at least 1TB of internal storage which is never going to happen

I have more than enough on one 64gb card, of one type of music. Would I like two slots, sure I would, more internal memory, not so much because it is a hassle to move around but a card is fast and easy and with the DX90 and a dual core CPU the scanning should be pretty fast. I would like about 32gb internal for my real favorite songs that I don't change but I actually put those on various cards (duplicating a few albums but I really like them and this works really well).

So for the small size, and the package of two Sabre dacs, beefed up amp section, new CPU, DSD and so on, it is a crazy small package and now with my 4400mA battery and the silicon case as a very quick and easy back for the DX, I have a long single run time. About double what it was. Good all around for me.

I'm confident the DX90 will sound very, very, nice, and will comfortably compete with the X5 in terms of SQ.

My remark about card slots was aimed at how the two DAPs compare with one another, and I stand by my belief that it is insane to go to all the trouble of implementing dual high-end ES90182ms, only to build it with a single card slot. That doesn't mean it won't be worth it's asking price, but it's still a silly design decision. Just make the damn case a bit bigger, as AK did when they updated the AK100 to AK120 status.

That aside, I wish iBasso every success with the DX90, and I suspect quite a lot of X5 owners will also buy a DX90, anyway.

And you forgot the Calyx M too; say 500 + 350 + 1000 ~ 1850 and still some cash left saving on the AK240

Oh, I didn't forget the Calyx-M - I just decided not to mention it here, in a sub-$500 thread!

(BTW, you forgot the Hugo, too!)
