Pretty looking, high performance DX90 firmware based on 2.1.0, International version

Brief description:

The CPU in DX90 supports only two frequencies: 312 and 504MHz. It means, it only can be switched between these two frequencies. The power consumptions at these frequencies differ in around 2 times, and power dissipation at the high speed is notably more than at the low speed.

DX90 have Rockchip RK3026, that is Dual core up to 1GHz. It must be in Kernel limited to max 504MHz.

It is also hardware design limitation: no heatsink, small case.

My DX90 (demo unit) should be here in the morning (about 12 hours) but it didn't come with the battery due to Australia posts express regulations. What this means is my DX50 (which is also on loan) should be back around the same time (we need the battery from DX50)

What regulation? I got the DX90 in the mail direct from ibasso, and I bought 3 separate batteries on ebay, and never had an issue....

By law you're not meant to send lithium batteries by air mail in Australia, they must go by road mail. Though usually the case of "don't say anything" works well. Just so happens the member who loaned the DX90 was asked at the counter and......told them.

For example, my DX50 is coming back exactly the same express system and there's no problem.

Really depends if they stop you about it.

You know when you go to a post office and sign the bottom of an Australia post satchel? (or probably any country)  That's the  aviation and security declaration. When you sign that you're confessing there isn't any flammable or dangerous goods inside the packet and safe to go by air.

So basically, you've signed your life away then and there if something explodes in the mailing system or goes wrong.

Both uses the exact same battery, pisen 2100mA so I think it would not affect much. Though few users has claimed that sq improves a lil bit with samsung battery but thats subjective I think. I am really interested in what you think about the dx90 :D

I'm really interested to try it! I also purchased a pair of XBA-40 to test out with it. But mainly I want to try IEM's like DN-1000, Altone, RDB Mini and a couple of fullsize headphones. I think being able to test a unit of such value before a buying decision is a big thing!

Then swap the battery covers over, install custom DX90 firmware on my DX50 and send that back instead!

Are you sure? I have Gapless option always turned on, because I listen vinyl rips and live records a lot. I experience one and the same problem on both stock 2.1.0 and modified firmware: it does not play gapless the first track sequence after power on. Do you feel the difference with the stock 2.1.0?

Sometimes it works, sometimes doesn't. It did work perfectly on the stock 2.1.0 FW. The sound quality is better though, with your upgrade. Mostly, the channel separation. Very clear. If you can do something about this gapless bag, it would be great. Thank you.

You see, I changed nothing regarding the player itself and sound libraries that it uses.

LOL I dare you to hahaha

Agreed, trying out gears before buying is always the most safest option, if you think the dx90 is not much of an upgrade to your dx50 why bother paying $400 more when you can spend on quality phones because in the end its how they sound to you. You should try different firmwares too. The general consensus is that 2.0 has more bass than 2.1 and its quite noticeable to me but for pairing up with my ckrs which has good amount of bass, I feel 2.1 controls the bass better hence tighter which I like.

What changes in font should be seen with Lurker0's latest firmware? Mine installed just fine, but I don't see any font changes that I can identify. Boot time also seems about the same.

After installation, I did a "wipe data and factory reset" which I always do following a firmware change, but I wouldn't think that should affect the new font.
