Detail retrieval is clearly better than the DX50, as is imaging and layering. Color me impressed - very, very impressed. Everything is in it's right place and it's amazingly easy to just pick out the different elements of the sound. It sounds soooo clear, so very realistic. I don't have a DX100 handy for a direct comparison but I'll do my best to borrow one soon so I can do a direct shootout.

(This is using the PB2, so I'm only comparing the DAC sections here, not the amps.)

What do you think about the dx90 internal amp section compare with your pb2?

Though it isnt fair since one is single ended one is balanced ended.

Haha, I was on my phone, kept auto correcting it to 'Soon", I had to make that damn phone learn.

Not even sure if that's what you meant, but anyway......

I would like an answer from SORON considering I've climbed 20,000 stairs above Mt Everest to the audio temple just to meet him

I did an let's say it was not for the faint of heart. The buttons and their board connections were let's say very tight. Because most of the components on board are surface mount types, you don't have much room for soldering anything except if you are a skilled surgeon. eek.gif

The caps ended up being the best changeable components, the ones found in the player are high quality electrolytic caps but you can always find top quality film based caps, won't get into the description of the material, there are plenty of references on head-fi for those, let's just say I had a few vendors of a1 caps I could have used. The space is tight so you gotta have steady hands to solder them in place, something that Soren would be able to do. wink.gif

Anyways enjoy your player until the next better one comes along! biggrin.gif

Initial impression after less than an hour of actual listening: The soundstage on the DX90 seems more accurate. Everything sounds just "right", like I'm in the studio (or at the concert) and not listening to headphones. Will do A/B comparisons later, right now I'm just plowing through my music like a kid in a candy store, sampling everything.

Will load up some wide sounding albums later and tell you if the 90 is wider than the 50. The DX50 is still a great DAP, the DX90 just happens to be better, both sonically and when browsing files and folders.

Ah, I feel your pain. I also hate typing with the phone and make mistakes all the time :happy_face1:

I was just trying to say, I didn't want to be mean, it was a joke that's all as your typo made me laugh.

The internal amp of the DX90 is better than the single ended output of the PB2, but the balanced output has them both beat. That being said, unless you want to go balanced or crave a specific signature I see absolutely no reason for adding an amp. This thing is a beast.

DX50 isn't too bad since I started using line out to Tralucent T1 full time, the internal amp section, not so much for me.

Take your time, I need wider stereo imaging, possibly some more air compared to DX50's internal amp section.

Also interested in your findings when amping eventually. For now enjoy and take in that internal scenery

Maybe it's time to crack the beast up:cool:

I'm amping right now, with the PB2. The DX90 surely has the DX50 beat when it comes to clarity & imaging, making everything a lot less congested. Listening to Tool - 10.000 Days and all the different layers and elements of the sound are crystal clear. Rain, Thunder, Bass, Guitar, Percussion and vocals... Everything is there and crystal clear.

Thanks Soren most probably what I'll find out when using my RSA intruder amp on balanced out. Too bad we don't have balanced out on the DX90 I could have tested my balanced in on my intruder.

I have  HM901 and HDPr10 and had DX50 and can tell one thing, ibasso Dx50 was LAME :( Cowon Z2 is much better than DX50, in fact Z2 with BBE enabled compares well to DX100.

Hearing DX50 is not much different from DX50 means DX90 must be lame too.

HELLO!!!!

I want to ask if DX90 is playing from the USB cable when turned on and the battery is charging?

thank you!

Well, turns out asking the local Jaben to notify me when they had stock means that they're preordering it for me. I'd just decided not to get the DX90 when they called me saying they had a few units in stock. Went right over, listened to it through my 627 MICRO and TDS-5M, mulled over it for a bit and then pulled the trigger right there and then. This world wants my wallet burnt on a stake, I swear :D
