is anybody routinely using a truly portable amp with the dx90?   i have an ifi idsd micro, which sounds great from the dx90's line out [i prefer the dx90 dac stage to the ifi's], but the micro is hardly something you'd want to carry around.  so is there a smaller, truly portable amp that anyone is using regularly and getting better quality sound?

I stack it with C5.

it measures at 136 * 63 * 15 (mm),  slightly shorter and thinner than mirco

Vorzuge Duo velcroed to DX90. Fits shirt pocket neatly.

Magic combo to my ears. Wish that DX90 battery lasted longer, it takes 3 re-charges until Vorzuge battery is low.

DX90 + Cypher Labs Picollo. An excellent pairing for my taste. Lush mid with great bass. Before Picollo I used to pair DX90 with Fiio E12A. They get along well too.

Size compare to DX90

Thanks for the info hamhamhamsta, I'm wondering if you're able to use the DX90 cover with the Anker 4400mah battery because it seems like it's double the thickness of the stock battery.

You cant use the back cover with the 4400 but using the included silicone skin works fine to hold the battery in place

Thanks nc8000, great idea using the stock silicone skin. I'm going for the 4400 mah battery

Hi All,

I have been testing out DX90 as DAC as I have just bought it. I have managed to installed the driver correctly, but after listening to a few tracks, my Windows 8.1 64-bit PC got Blue Screen of Death with the typical error message of irql_not_less_or_equal

After uninstalling and reinstalling the device+driver as taught by an archived post in this thread, the issue is still not solved perfectly. The DAC works fine with Youtube (web-app) and native music player. With those music players, the DAC can be used for more than 30 minutes without any issue.

However, it seems that only when I run Spotify, it will trigger the BSOD again after a few tracks (sometimes 1 track, but sometimes a few more).

May I know if anyone encountered the same issue?

Thanks! :)

How is the soundstage compared to the 2.1.5L2? I've read up to the point of release of the firmware but all I can find is that the 2.2.0 is more forward even in slow roll-off. Does that, by any chance, diminish the soundstage relatively? Also, has anyone experimented with the different gain settings for the new firmware? I fear the changes in sound I heard with the different gain settings in 2.1.5 will not be applicable to other firmwares.

The drivers are still buggy with Windows 8. But iBasso is aware of that and plans to update drivers. You can ask for Paul on this forum.

I bought it solely as a dap. In my opinion they should never have announced that it could be used as a dac

I totally agree with you nc8000. If a feature of a product is half baked and not fully working then the manufacturer shouldn't even mention about the feature. They should not give false hopes to their customers by announcing a feature that doesn't work. I can understand that the primary use of the DX90 is for DAP use but due to the fact that iBasso actually advertised the product as a DAC....therefore many people actually bought the product expecting the advertised DAC feature to work but....looks like it's a disappointment for many.

We tested the dac function on all of our Windows machines here. All the different operating systems from 7 forward were tried and worked. It may be that different computers have small differences and this may account for the reason for the DX not working correctly on many machines. If it had not worked here we would never have released it. We are still working on a fix for this SW and are using more Windows based machines and Mac. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
