Oh, I didn't forget the Calyx-M - I just decided not to mention it here, in a sub-$500 thread!

(BTW, you forgot the Hugo, too!)

You can't be broke because you can't get off this train once it has left the station and you are already on. Just cut a hole your pocket and funnel it into this hobby or you will be put in the caboose.

So many choices and the thing is, they are all getting so good. My bet is, besides the card slots :^), the DX90 is going to compete with the top daps in sound and frankly the UI now is a no hassle for me. Any little refinements will be icing on the cake, more butter on the bread, hey, it's all good.

Oh, and get a silicon case and a 4400mA battery. Now that the battery is breaking in it is really holding a long charge. I love the interchangeable battery of this series.

I just wonder whether they have learned from the dx50 with regards to firmware. Will they release a mature version right out the gate, or will it be ground zero again?

I reckon the firmware will be quite similar because they are the same size and look very similar etc.

I would not say it will be similar, first we are talking about a different dac with different pin configuration and control so right there the firmware to control it it will be different not to mention the dual configuration. In this case size is not an indication at all of firmware likeness, it's all about what's inside and how they "successfully" implement it. Granted they'll use the same UI and inputs/outputs but that's where the similarity will end. By the time the unit is fully tuned even though we got the DX50 body, it's a different player altogether.

It is confirmed right that it will have the same housing as the DX 50?. I would have wished they feature a bigger screen for faster more comfortable scrolling , but eh , one can't have everything, will prolly buy this way way later on

Yeah, you're probably right.

I really like the weight of the DX50, the interchangeable battery and the UI is fast. Combine that with a dual core CPU, and added features, new custom jacks, that from what I am told, are good for 10,000 uses and grip far superior to anything else, I look forward. One thing is I have not enjoyed about many players and amps is the ease at which the plug comes out, that will be corrected.

A new sunrise. :^)  Dillingham, AK, yesterday as the Bristol Bay is once again frozen and we have -12 weather.

yeah the firmware will probably start of as 1.0 but will more than likely be as mature as the DX50 firmware.  Firmware changes were more UI/OS improvements not dac implementation in the DX50.  Such as media scanning, scrolling, tags and what not. There was nothing wrong with the dac implementation with the DX50.
