I'm currently using the Audio Technica ATH-W1000X , which is fantastic, but doesn't offer any serious isolation to speak of... My source is an iPhone 5 with a Fiio E12. I prefer a faster, transparent sound signature with tight, bouncy bass. I listen to a lot of "sleek" music... The Cars, The Strokes, Muse, The Police, etc. Also a decent amount of electronica.
I am looking for cans that will block out most noises encountered when working in public... Crowded cafes, street noise, loud conversations, music on loud-speakers, etc. I like to be able to listen to my music at modest levels, not hammer my ears trying to block out ambient noise. As far as plane travel goes, I'll probably stick to IEM's... But hey, if there's a set of cans out there that can compete with an IEM for that level of isolation (I'm not holding my breath), I'll be all over it.
I dislike noise-cancelling technology, isolation works much better for me.
I've been reading about the Audio Technica ATH-M50, the Sennheiser HD380 Pro, the V-Moda Crossfade M-100, the Direct Sound EX-29 (although the EX-29 seem pretty terrible for everything but isolation according to reviews I've read)... Anything that comes up from a Google search for best isolation, really.
Opinions on the above four models as well as other suggestions greatly appreciated... Help me find the world's best isolating cans!
Thanks in advance..!
