Investment dillema: Get AMP/DAC for HD 380 or buy new setup

Currently trying to figure out what would make the most sense, I currently do not have a decicated amp/dac to use for my Senns HD 380s.

I can either spend ~$200 and get an AMP/DAC (like the schiit combo). Or I could sell off my HD 380 and spend $300 on a new setup. And I'm not sure what would be the best route to take in my situation, The 380s do suit my needs well, they're closed, fairly neutral, and over the ear. But if my budget will allow me, I'm all for a better setup.:L3000:

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Assuming your using a Windows PC.

In general, your usually better off spending more for headphones, then a DAC/amp

Asus Xonar DG sound card, $27 and there is a $10 mail in rebate.

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound card, $90

Personally, I would go for the Audio Technica ATH-A900X closed headphones, $220

With Hifiman Velour ear pads, $10+shipping.

Asus Xonar DG sound card, $27

I've actually been looking at the a900x for a while, what will the pads affect though?

Also, how do they compare to something like the hd 600s? or the t50rp mad dogs? hd 600 is out of budget but still curious none the less.

I do use a windows machine, unfortunately I'm on a laptop though, so I won't be able to install the card.

If I do end up getting the a900x + pads, would something like the schiit magni be adequate? Are there are cheaper alternatives that cover both dac/amp just as well as the magni?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Hifimediy has a new USB DAC/Amp for $65, not sure how good it is.
