You guys weren't full of it when you were saying this headphone rocks. Holy crap.

I remained skeptical when I read the positive reports in here but I'm starting to get it. Yeah, I know myself well enough to not forget that new flavours take me for a spin but these first impressions make me think that this is what I wanted the TH-600 to sound like. (Slightly) leaner in the bass department and a notch down from the sometimes agressive Fostex highs. It'll probably allow for the mids to come out a bit more as well. And yeah, it does pack a decent punch as I was hoping for. Still haven't swapped the stock pads with the 770 pads as it seems I'm getting a little used to the way it feels on the ears. Been wearing them for an hour now and and can't say my ears are hurting. Would I swap to the TH-600 now I'm sure I would still feel relief. All in all, a very good buy!

I will say this: stock DT770 pads (which I'm currently using) have a thick foam layer that may or may not affect the sound. I still can't tell even after significant A/B testing if I'm hearing an actual alteration to the sound or it's placebo, but it IS something to be aware of.

The cheapo pads are perfect sonically and comfort-wise, IMO, but they do NOT last. I'm on my second pair and the seams are starting to separate. Does not make me happy. The genuine Beyers are real leather, stitched and glued together. So hit and miss.

Just started reading this thread...must be the only Head-fi'er who buys first, then finds the thread! Getting a handle on the sound, like them, currently having trouble taking off the Shure1540 played through Geek Out 1k ( Mad Dog pads), have to pull them off and give more time to these babies.

Keep listening to them. Trust me, you are going to fall in love with the Hope VI. It is the only headphone I listen to anymore from my collection. :)

Just a bump for this. You will NOT find a better headphone at that price.

Don't take it personnally but statements like that are dangerous. Use with great care.

.jp seems to have the lowest new price world wide. USA price is around an extra $115 which is still whoppingly good compared to European madness.

Yeah you really need to hear a few headphones priced around 700 to make that assessment... plus you gotta account for signature tastes, definitely a bold statement considering the competition haha

I'm always happy to find alternatives, but in my searches I've come up short. I need to get my hands on the Fostex TH600/900 or the old Denon X000 line, but I'll say that I've tried my damndest to find the ultimate headphone around $1000 and landed on the PH6 happily. I've yet to hear anyone say any of those are superior to the PH6 but I do want to hear them myself.

In fairness, it's not easy to find closed-back headphones up in that realm, so that might be part of it, but these absolutely tapdanced on the metaphorical graves of the LCD2/HE6/HD800/D7100 (admittedly mostly open-back), which are the ones I've managed to get around my head.

Most of those headphones need good amps to sing, and I don't think these headphones would destroy those listed above especially considering they are technically the best HP's around.
From what I've read, these are on par with the HE-500 which is not a negative thing at all, in fact it would make these a great bargain considering the lack of amping requirements
