Honestly the are the closest hp's in balance to the 6 but if I had to choose only one headphone it would prob be the 6 because it's more natural and dynamic. I can't remember things like imaging etc but I will have an he500 again soon and I am thinking of letting the he6 go to get the pandora but I don't know yet.
I know I am late but the mids are just as forward in the upper mids and a little less in the lower mids. Overall this headphone beats my crack/speedball n hd650 combo straight from my iMac out in a lot of way namely clarity. It's not as deep in soundstage though.

Thanks!
No I have no idea what to go with haha, hoping one destroys the other - oh well

Might have to demo one

I know how you feel. I want an upgrade from my HE-400, but I'm kind of afraid to buy one of these without hearing it first tongue.gif.

It's an upgrade to the he400 because they have a way better balance and sound more natural while just as fast. It's smooth yet just as,if not more detailed. The he400 is way less refined. I prefer the tones of this to the he500 by a little. This headphone is more engaging than both but the bass isn't ortho solid, yet it's a more natural sound and the clearest closed back under 1000. Even clearer than the AD

I think I should get one so I have a headphone I can use out of my iPod as a semi-portable (sitting on my apartments balcony, on the bus to/from school, and on spares). Are the lower mids comparable in quality to the HD650? I'm mainly concerned with bass and vocals, particularly female.
Yes better and clearer with harder hitting bass. Definite upgrades to hd650 and he400 and worth it's asking price inSQ. It sounds better than the th600 IMO too.

...and it is a closed can, if that is crucial  :)

Finally got my PH VI, it just wonderful headphone except the pad. The default pad is just not comfortable, will definitely get the recommended pad from earlier post.

Short comparison to my D2000, on D2000 the bass is loser and had more thumb too, the PH VI has tight bass. On some songs I still prefer D2000 bass although technically speaking it is worse than PH VI, maybe my ear hasn't used to PH VI bass. The PH VI has much better mid, clarity, and resolution compare to my D2000. Overall I felt PH VI is just in the another level.

"Loose" bass isn't necessarily bad, IMO. When you're playing music with big basslines, that loose feel can be dang satisfying. But yes, the PH6 is just on its own plane.

I'd suggest the cheap DT770 pads. They work perfectly.

Agree, on some music with big bass I do prefer loose bass.

Bought the grey velour DT880 pad for my PH VI only to found the sound change in bad term.

Lesson learned, I should have listened to you guys and get the cheap DT880/DT770 pad in the first place.

You can also try the Shure 840 pads - maybe they are cheaper in Singapore than the Beyer?  Anyway they are also leather - so sound sig didn't change a lot.

We'll, I have an update. I bought my pair of pandora hope vi about three weeks ago and have simply been blown away. I was so happy with the bass and overall sound from my signature dj's that I wasn't expecting to like the pandora hope vi's this much.

No, the bass isn't the same magical quality you get from the signature dj's by the bass is still quite lovely and is there in big amounts when the song asks for it. I am not disappointed by the bass at all.

In the other areas, to go along with the great bass, this headphone really shines, the mids and highs are so much better than the sig dj's that overall I couldn't be happier with the sound. It is magical, I sold my signature dj's which is pretty telling given how in love with their low end I was. Until listening to hope vi I didnt realize the mid and highs I was missing out on.

I own HD650 and t1 as well. The hope vi is on another level, enough so that I a not looking at anymore headphones (looking only at upgraded dac/amps). Really, given the sound quality, these should be selling for the same price as th900 or hd800. I got them for $600 which is absurdly low.

nah I didnt get those. But another person I know sold them to me. This HE-6 even not properly amped is the purest hp I have had to date so I am not letting it go right now. I literally think I will sell everything else I have and keep those here.
