Edifier s330d with Gigabyte z77x-ud5h

Hi!

I am new to these forums. I have been searching and searching for some info on this, but I cannot seem to find any solid answers.

I do not have a sound card. I will not be getting one for awhile, not until I am able to save up for a proper sound system set up. In the meantime, I need a set of speakers, preferably 2.1 speakers.

I have found a great deal on the Edifier s330d for $99, but I am unsure if I would be able to work that out with the set up I have now.

Currently I have a 2.1 altec lansing set of speakers. My computer is connected to my tv in the living room. I have a 3.5mm splitter connected to the speakers with two cables going to both my computer and tv.

My question is, will the Edifier s330d set work with what I have? My tv does have optical audio. It doesn't look like my computer has an optical connection. Is it possible to have an optical splitter connected to the Edifier, with one optical>3.5mm going to my computer and optical going to my tv?

Any suggestions or information would be great,

Thanks!

You can't be mixing 3.5mm and optical together, 3.5mm is an analog signal which optical is a digital signal, totally different.

Best Buy is actually having a save on their Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system, which is a pretty good deal at $100.

If you really don't have optical out on your mobo, then I would suggest a Xonar DG.

I know you said you can't get one, but it's only $20 after rebate and it offers you an option to connect the speakers directly and the optical connection for your home theater system.
