The PS4, Astro MixAmp 2013 and the DT 880

I purchased this mix amp to use with a 600 ohm Beyerdynamic DT880. I'm still waiting on both of these to arrive to me but I know that the mixamp is optimized for 32 ohms only, therefore I will require using another more powerful headphone amp in the connection. I just want to make sure I get the absolute BEST sound quality possible so the amp I bought is the Objective 2 (amp only).

So the connection will be:
PS4>mixamp>y-split for mic and sound>O2 amp>headphones

I have 2 questions:

1) Will the surround sound experience transfer through the O2 amp without any issue?
2) I know that the best audio signal is digital so I already know that the mixamp has a DAC which then goes to the O2 amp but comes out as analog on the other end, so would it be better for me to get the ODAC O2 amp/DAC combo which has a mini-usb out which I can use a mini-usb to 3.5mm female jack to plug into my headphones? Or is that unnecessary? What would be the most optimal?

Thanks

The PS4 > mix-amp > O2 > DT880 should work.

The mix-amp takes in a digital audio signal, but outputs an analog audio signal, so the Mix-amp will be feeding the analog audio signal to the O2.

So you can not use the ODAC with this setup.

I'm guessing the USB output on the mix-amp is connected to the source (PS3, PS4, Xbox), for the microphone (and power?) connection.

the usb out on the mixamp is for power, the source (ps4) connection will be made through an optical cable. Microphone will be plugged in to the y cable

And I see why I can't use the ODAC now, I had the connections backwards in my head. ok but how about the digital surround sound? will that work properly?

And would I be able to replace the Astro Mixamp with the Turtle Beach XP SEVEN audio control unit and achieve the same thing? I like that one over the Astro Mixamp as far as the added features and functions.

With the PS4>optical>mix-amp>3.5mm cable>O2 amp>DT880

You should have headphone surround sound coming out of the DT880 and into your ears.

I'm assuming you have to set the PS4 audio to Dolby or DDL or whatever the PS4 calls it.

ok, yea I'll mess around with the ps4 audio settings once I get it and set it all up. what about using the Turtle Beach XP SEVEN ACU instead of the astro mixamp? It also has digital surround sound processing so it should work the same right?

oh and also I was talking to some guy that works in an audio equipment store yesterday over the phone and he was saying that it wouldn't be ideal to go from amp to amp and that you have to bypass it. Is that in any way true? I read another thread on this forum where someone said this mixamp>dedicated headphone amp set-up works though.

In general it's not recommended to daisy chain amplifiers, so the guy in the store was giving you good advice.

But the headphone amplifier in the Mix-amp is fairly weak, so it seems to work ok to daisy chain an amplifier off the mix-amp.

Beside, you really do not have much of a choice.

Here are two threads dedicated to gaming with headphones, feel free read up and post questions on them.
