In terms of overall signature, is it relatively 'neutral', like the Miracle, or is it deliberately boosted in certain areas?

still neutral but for the boost i don't know how to spot that :P yet i don't feel like any funny boost in the EQ , i am so picky so i might notice if there was a boost, over all same sound sig yet far improved specs, they didn't make the treble brighter, just more extension without getting harsh, and the mids are totally new man, they are using different mid drivers for the Mentor, thats why i was happy with them, for the bass as i told you its rumbling and nice.

IMHO, the Mentor has very clear sound, which is more separated than my 334s, which is what I am comparing too. I can quick change between the two for quick comparisons. And I think it correct to compare Universal to Universal.

The 334 has more in your face total sound, and it is a warm sound. I finally get what that word means in terms of music. Thick, lush, upfront, not as separated. Muted as compared to the Mentor?  I apologize for my inadequacy in explanation. I'm still A/Bing. Once I get it straight, the differences that is, then I have to decide which I want to hear!

Thankyou, both of you, for answering me,

  • 1) To me, the Miracle could sometimes sound a little cold, but I didn't mind that because it sounded clear.

I have noticed that some CIEMs/UIEMs are tuned to sound a bit warmer for vocals, but that can (subjectively, at least) slightly reduce the amount of clarity, and because of that, I prefer it to be cold and very clear rather than warm and less clear.

Can you comment on that, please?

  • 2) Also, how does the soundstage compare to the Miracle? One of my favourite things about the Miracles is how large and airy the soundstage is.

  • 3) The Miracles treble sometimes does not sound organic or realistic with micro-details like brushed cymbals. How does the Mentor compare in terms of the realism of the treble (not talking about extension, at the moment - I'm asking specifically about realism)

Thanks, lads!

the sound stage is way bigger tbh, i used the Miracle with the stock cable and was thinking its broken or something or the amp got problems, turned out i am used to the gold cable's sound stage,  yet the Mentor with the stock cable didn't give me this feeling what so ever!! the sound stage is super just with the stock cable man, i was really shocked, cause coming from the Miracle i didn't expect a lot.

sorry for not being able to answer the other questions, i am not the best reviewer :P

Great review Shini. I am really pleased for you. I know how long you have been searching for the right CIEM!

If you don't answer my 3 questions, then yes, you are.

If you answer them, then no, you're not.

Not cold, clear without coloring.

I think the Miracle has a great soundstage. The Mentor's is wide and deep, like a rectangle. For sure it is not V shaped.

I've noticed that guitars in some of the songs I am listening to sound shrilly. As my friend Longboats knows, I am a big fan of a Album called Supersession and the guitars were not pleasing and since it is a top ten album for me.....it presents a problem.

Right now listening to Macca's Junior Farm and it also hit the shrill guitar treble once, I'm half way thru.

HA! You didn't send me a PM asking for an opinion!   :D

Looks like UM has a winner in the Mentor.

There is no way in hell that Miracle is neutral.. To my ear it clearly is V shaped tune. I got it retune and reshell into silicon by Piotr from Custom Art, now I can say it has proper monitoring quality.

I agree it is not neutral, the NT6 is more neutral, however I found that the boost in highs and lows is quite reasonable compared to many other truly v shaped headphones.

True, not as V as JVC FX700 or other "fun" IEM.
