DT 880 Recable Help

Thread Starter

I am planning on ordering a set of DT 880 pro's, but I am not a fan of the coiled cable and single entry design. I am looking to change the headphones over to dual entry, while also changing the length and quality of the cable. I still have many questions that I need to find answers to about what items to purchase, so I will try to not post too many at once. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

First off, I need to select cable. I have been looking at either Mogami 2534, or Canare L-4E5C. Which of the two cables yields the best audio quality? If there are any other types of cable that people recommend, feel free to let me know.

I would think both those cable would be more then enough for your use.

If you do a search on the Internet for "Recabling headphones" and sure you will find lots of websites where someone lists the steps (and shows pictures) they went thru for recabling their headphones and where they bought the parts.

Thanks for the help, I have found the answers to may of my questions by searching around. However, a few remain.

What would be a good cable length for regular desktop listening?

What type of solder is recommended? I have some 60/40 rosin core solder, but I don't know if that is ideal.

Are Neutrik or Amphenol plugs preferred in terms of audio quality and ease of installation?

Usually headphones come with around a 10' long cable.

But it's really up to you how long it should be, but if you use a short length, is might make it harder to sell the DT800 in the future.

The 60/40 Rosin should do the job.

I really doubt there is any audio quality difference between the difference plugs, pick the one that looks best to you.
