Charlotte, NC Meet: April 19th 2014 - Page 23

I find this discussion of well recorded rap...well, strange. I'm still hoping to make the meet.

The technology for great stereo recordings has been around since the 1950s. If the production quality for any decently-budgeted recording is bad, it's because they're not using the equipment well, or because somebody who isn't technically savvy is overriding the engineer's best judgement.

Anyway -- I'm still planning on attending, and hope to be in on Friday night, in case there's a pre-meet gathering somewhere. I'm under orders to try Price's Fried Chicken in Charlotte if possible. It's about a half-hour away from the hotel so "possible" is kind of vague for right now. But if anybody's into having a pre-pre-meet dinner, we can talk.

Well recorded Rap...I think that's an Oxymoron. That's just MHO. If someone has well recorded Rap bring it, I'd like to listen. I'm bringing a bunch of SACDs, Jazz, Rock, Classical.etc., and Binaural discs including the "Dr. Che sky's Sensational, Fantastic & simply Amazing Binaural Sound Show". You're welcome to listen to any of them on your own rig. Remember.........the gear is fun, but it's really about the music.

Haha, I can understand.  I should disclaimer and say well recorded when compared to other heavily sampled music.  Perhaps a better term would be well mixed?  In this context the bass should not be excessively exaggerated (in context of the genre), the clarity and flow of lyrics easily discernable, and quality enough samples to not induce headaches with high hats and such.  Some tracks have even surprised me with imaging tricks thrown in the mix that I had missed with lesser gear.

Of course most tracks will do nothing to demonstrate any sense of dynamic range and instrumental resonance like a quality acoustic or orchestral recording will, but that's not really it's primary focus.  And of course there are also plenty of tracks in the genre that hurt my ears to listen to out of a highly revealing setup.  Especially a lot of stuff from the last several years, quality seems to have taken a nosedive, with overdriven, distorted bass, and highs that sounds like it was sampled from 96kbps as a FLAC file.  What's fun to listen to in my car doesn't always translate to headphones unfortunately :)

Absolutely.

Also to you and Danny,

if either of you have any old 6sn7 tubes lying around I'd love to roll some in the Super 7.  I may even willing to be buy, if I like any enough.

I don't have much in 6SN7s but can bring a few for you to roll. Too bad you can't use 6SL7s: I have a bunch of those.

On second thought I don't think I can come up with seven 6SN7 tubes of the same type. However, I will take a look in my little stash .
