Charlotte, NC Meet: April 19th 2014 - Page 13

I should I also add that I'm tossing around the idea now of maybe selling my Soloist to help buy the K812.  As much as I love the Soloist, the amp on the Anedio isn't really too far behind with the K712 and the K812 is supposed to be more efficient and easily driven by portables.  If anyone here is possibly interested in buying it I'll give first priority so it could still make it to the meet.  I could even cut a discount from what I would offer in an ad.

I'm not sure what their normal used prices are...?  I'd be interested, but there's no way I could guarantee a sell/buy unfortunately :/.

I'm really interested in the K812 myself, though it was pretty disheartening to read about issues with the plastic cracking :(

That's pretty uncalled for for a $1,500 headphone. Seems to be a trend lately with AKG, there are a lot of people that have been saying the Tiesto DJ line is built like crap. Lots of issues with plastic breaking and cracking. I wonder, is the K812 built in Austria or their Chinese plant? I never had any issues with my K702...they were solid.

Speaking of, glad to see there will be a K712 there...the K702 was my first "real" set of cans. Throughout my headphone journey I can't say that I miss them terribly, but I'm curious to see what changes/refinements they have made with the new K712.

Hey Josh I don't know if you considered contacting Drew at Moon Audio, he sells the k812 and lcdx. Maybe he would be willing to send a demo out since there are several people, myself included interested in maybe picking a pair up, and we could hook him up with some free advertising

Yeah, that is a concern.  They are made in Austria.  I can assure you the K712 is much better than the K702, despite their similarities.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I actually emailed him awhile back about possibly setting up an audition for exactly those 2.  I also told him about the meet, but I should probably update him now that you mention it.  I'm sure if he doesn't have another meet planned, like the one in NY he would try to make it.

Whoa! I'd love a demo of both the LCD X and the K812!

I'm for that!

Also doesn't Oh, we already mentioned Moon Audio xD [I might swing by there shop on my way up as well tbh] Hopefully by April I'll have my portable rig at 100%!

Will be shipping my HM801 for repairs this month and awaiting my new HiRose to 4pin Adapter for my pb2 cable to arrive. I should b good to go by March I think!

I planned on going to the last meet a year ago, but because of personal reasons couldn't make it. I hope I'll be able to make this one! I've been reading Matt bragging about his vintage receivers all over the Mad Dog thread :D so can't wait to try them out and see what it is actually like! I also have my universal Mad Dog 3.2 with SE-in, balanced out of my ALO RX MK3 if anyone wants to try a "portable setup" of the MDs.

Out of curiosity, are there any of you living in Winston-Salem, and if there are, does any of you have any experiences with getting ear impressions from the audiologists around here? I am looking at Carolina Hearing Doctors's Dr. Mills, but just checking if there are other options out there. Looking forward to getting the JH16s :p.

I live in Greensboro which is right next to Winston bananaheadlin, but I have no experience with that audiologist.....

The meeting room at the Days Inn has been rented at a cost of $250. Donations, the day of the meet, to defray the expense would be greatly appreciated.

I was thinking the same thing. Back when I lived in Chicago they did a huge raffle at ChiUniFi and it would more than pay for the room plus renting the room for the next year! Of course, the organizers were able to get some serious prizes...one year HiFiMan gave away a HE-500

I'd participate in a raffle if the prize is right smily_headphones1.gif

But also I have no problem with a little donation to help out with room rental costs.
