I can confirm that that is true. Apple are stupid, stupid, stupid for dumping junk hidden files on everything, and it does temporarily brick the J3 when there's .ds_store files in the J3 root directory.

First, they aren't junk files. If you want, say, the view you see when you open up a drive upon connecting it to stay the same, they store that info. They don't break any standards. I'd be concerned about the software of any USB Mass Storage-based data-reading peripheral that doesn't check files are valid to the device's function before trying to load data from them.

I haven't posted here because I've been busy with school, but I really like the X5 and I really don't want to ship it out to TekeRugburn. I'll have my review as soon as possible (But next week is midterms week, so I may not be able to get something up any time before the week after the next). But for those that are impatient, here's a short little ditty: I'm buying one. Not necessarily right when they come out because I want to wait for Fiio to iron out any kinks before giving them my money, but this is the first non-iPod DAP that hasn't made me want to throw it against the wall (I've had the worst luck with cheaper DAPs and Sandisk has too much of my money from players that just choose not to work after a few months). And the fact that this can drive my ZMF T50RP well enough to actually be as entranced as I can be from my home setup is enough for me to wince once at the price and finally end my DAP search at least for a while. I just wish that Fiio allowed for replaceable batteries because I don't want to have a $350 paperweight once the battery starts to fade. But knowing me, I'll probably end up selling it well before that happens.

The only huge negative was that for some weird reason, the X5 didn't jive with the HD650 at all, like it sounded better and more controlled unamped from my Note 3. But this isn't exactly typical X5 usage.

catllethief - you're the 2nd recipient on your tour - right?  I don't see any review from ahaist yet.  If he was the first - maybe contact him and see if he had any issues?  If he didn't - next step would be to contact Joe (PM is best) - describe the problem, and let him advise you on what to do.

I'd see if there was a memory I could dump and if that didn't work reload the FW... with Joe's guidance and approval.

Hi cattlethief,

The media library system will be overhauled with a new firmware before the X5 launches internationally. With that said, there are things you can try if you want the library system working *now*... *composes pm*

(not really something you ought to need to do to get things working, it's not even worthy of being called a workaround, so I won't post it here atm)

Which 250/300 ohm cans did you try?

I tried the X5 with my DT880 and HD600, and was pleasantly surprised that there was very little difference (properly volume matched with an SPL meter) - between the X5 and an NFB-12.

I am throwing my two cents worth but I had the exact same issue withy my cards, they worked fine in the DX50 with no scanning issues but did not with the X5, what I did, which you won't like, is formatting the cards using the X5 formatting utility, then loaded the files from their card reader. I was then back in business but not all the way. The directory browsing worked fine but not the library scanning. Not that the scanning choked cause it went all the way through but after it, it said there were no songs on the card.

Joe might have additional suggestions for you.

Good luck!

I was the first recipient, as I posted before, didn't have any issues and also gave some ideas to cattlethief to try. Seems his problems are solved now.

My review is going to be up in a few minutes :D

"Eject for Windows" is a great little utility which avoids these problems for me:

Same here even though I still had scanning issues but that's something James and Joe promised to fix when the dap will be released globally. wink.gif
