Spacious, detailed, slightly warm but on the neutral side to my ears. Just love the contrast and texture of the sound. Separation is good. Vocals really stand out for me. Very natural, easy on the ears yet not rolled off or overly smooth. Very well done Fiio.

The build quality is also pretty impressive. The unit feels sturdy and well put together. A substantial amount of this player consists of metal. The UI is easy to use and functional. It's pretty quick.. Love the scroll wheel. I am a bit disappointed in the rubber/plastic tabs used to cover the micro SD slots. I feel with use they probably will break off. Then again most players don't even have a covering for their SD slots. But something like the AK series would have been better. I'd still purchase a unit even with this flaw. The sound more than makes up for that :).

The accessories are a bit novel. They actually give you 3.5 plugs which you can use to protect the ports you are not using. Quite smart indeed :). There is also a usb stick included (I'm not sure if that has HD music on it or not?) along with some extra screen protectors, a usb plug and some sort of makeshift plug (guessing to be used with the LO or Coaxial?). The included rubber protective casing is a nice touch. It will help to keep the player in great shape and you don't have to break the bank purchasing a case.

I wasn't planning on buying anymore players but I honestly think I will be grabbing an X5 for myself to use on the go :).

Happy to hear that you like it. Sounds like it may be as good as it's bits. It's a really nice topology and I'm a fan of the DAC chip they use for this sort of purpose. Didn't mean it would swing but apparently it does.

Well... maybe... :p

The X5 already "froze" while building the library (6669 songs FLACs/MP3s in 2 64gb microSDs). First it froze at 6603 then at 42xx... :(

(The MK2 of course doesn't have a problem with this...) My X3 also gave me problems. Not sure if it's a quantity issue. I definitely know it's not the cards as they work flawlessly individually and on my AK of course...

Ok. Good to know! I was about to delete the library and start again! LOL.

I'll just use folder browsing for testing.

Thanks.

Guys, please report in your group's group pm when you receive your unit so that we may keep track of when the unit should head out to the next previewer. smily_headphones1.gif

Fiio should have designed the X5 with a better appearance. They tried to implement something look like ipod, but with those 4 ugly buttons it looks like a pirated ipod. :)

Well I am sure the sound crushes ipod's, and that's what matters to audiophiles.

Hey DMinor, how come you did not join the tour? I think it is good to broaden the horizon to try out different DAP.

Honestly I didn't know there is a tour, and secondly I don't want to feel I am compelled to say or not say something about a toured dap.

But you are right, it's good to broaden the horizon and I am just focusing on my current interest. :)

lol...

The X5 might not be the most beautiful of the lot. But she is quite versatile, cooks up some great sound & is homely enough to not cheat on you :P.

I think the tour is good but hopefully no strings are attached to what people can or can't say. What you don't want to hear is hype or dishonest opinions. I have written off reviews from a few head-fi'ers, entirely. I still read only for entertainment.

Honestly it's hard for me to give up my rockboxed 256GB CF DMod with the sound I have no complaint about. I understand I may not have the best sound, but life is about balance and you probably can't have everything.
