Audiophile Sound Card

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to make an account. I'm building my own PC that's going to be structured around:

1.) Music - Playback/Recording (Primarily playback)
2.) Gaming

The primary use of this sound card will be with music, and I'm looking for top quality. From my own research, it would seem that the Creative Sound Blaster ZXR would be perfect for achieving this, considering its daughter board for recording and it being the top of the line card Creative has to offer. However, I've heard this card is only outstanding when gaming, not while listening to/recording music. I figured I'd be smart to post here and get opinions first.

If any audiophiles here could help me out, that'd be awesome. Thanks.

I'm far from an expert on sound card and know little about recording.

For a combination of an internal sound card for gaming and music playing, I do not think you could do better then the ZxR for playing music (or gaming).

For better audio quality your looking at getting an external DAC /headphone amplifier.

Really for the best audio quality playback and game playing, your looking at getting an external DAC/Headphone with S/PDIF(optical & coaxial) input, which can be combined with a lower costing sound card, like the Sound Blaster Z (OEM)

What are my options for top notch DACs I should be looking at? Audio is pretty high priority to me regarding this PC.

If you could state an over all budget for audio improvements to your PC, it would help narrow down recomendations.

I myself a month ago bought a Audio-GD NFB-15.32 external DAC amp ($300), which will be replacing my Essence STX sound card (the STX and ZxR are roughly equal for audio quality).
