Travelling to Tokyo and want to buy some open back headphones

Thread Starter

I'm in Singapore but will be travelling to Tokyo and want to purchase some open back headphones. I will be using them at home through a Marantz NA7004 which has a decent Headphone output.

I'm looking at the 20,000JPY or 240-250 USD range.

I've shortlisted a few:

Sennheiser HD558

Audio Technica ATH-AD900X

Bayerdynamic DT990

Grad 125i or 225i

For me I'm looking for sound-stage and good mid-range. I listed to a range of music but not a lot of electronic music - I'm no basshead!

If anyone has any suggestions on the above or other open back headphone I should consider that would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Actually one of the advantages of doing audio shopping in Tokyo is that you can try the headphones yourself and find the ones that you like rather than depend on the forums on "what to buy". Nothing beats 1st hand experience.

Recommend you check out the following stores :-

e-earphone in Akihabara

Yodobashi Camera (It's a chain but recommend the Akihabara store)

Fujiya Avic in Nakano
