First a quick background. I'm relatively new to the audio game, and currently I own the ATH AD700s. They've been with me for a good couple of years, but I'm looking for something more. I listen to music from my computer, so portability and such are of no concern.
I did some research and came across the DT770s. I also saw that many people said they needed an amp to perform at full capacity. As such, I ordered a pair of DT770 pros, 250 Ohm impedance, and a Schiit Vali amp. The DT770s have arrived, and they are fantastic. While not as comfy as the old ATH AD700s, they have far more of a thump, with crisp and defined highs. I listened to music for a good few hours (Around 6) and they weren't fatiguing in any way.
Here's the tough bit, I've heard that the 880s are better in nearly every way. If I wait, and decide to upgrade later, I'll have to pay the full price for the 880s, thus costing a large amount of money for what may be a relatively small audio upgrade. However, I could return my 770s to amazon and get the 880s, which would cost me around £70 ($114). Are the 880s good enough to warrant the effort of returning a product, and the monetary investment? I'm not concerned about sound leakage in either direction (My ATH AD700s are perfectly fine)
Also, to clarify, I can't fault the 770s in any way, and I'm loving them, I'm just concerned the 880s may be EVEN BETTER, and this may be my last chance to return the 770s and get the most "bang for my buck." Both of these headphones will be driven from my soon to arrive Schiit Vali.
I'd most likely get the pro 250 Ohm version of each headphone (As the 600s are not available in a similar price range)
